Quote from: jeders on August 22, 2025, 01:02:55 PMUmmmm, wasn't it always 31 August?

What was put out was 20 August 2025, at least my unit. We had our normal weekly meeting on the 19th and they were insistent that it had to be completed before COB on the 20th. Got to work early the next day so I could knock it out, logged into e-Services, big red banner saying do it, logged into Absorb, first thing that popped up CPPT Renewal, Completed the class and logged in again yesterday to find it is extended to the 31st.

Talk about irrelevant requirements being more irrelevant lol.

Probably need to work with unit admins?

Wo have no problems in my unit but we were also proactive in making sure that everyone over the age of 18 has completed this. Yes cadets are included too.

Membership / Year of Ownership Webinar Conf...
Last post by Shuman 14 - August 21, 2025, 06:38:43 PM
So I'm slightly confused on how this works. This is how I understand it, if you watch these Webinars in Absorb, you will receive credits once you complete the Webinar. Once you accumulate six credits, you will receive Conference Credit for your Level 3 requirements.

The questions I have are:

1. If you accumulate 12 credits, do you receive Conference Credit for two conferences and fulfill the Level 3 requirement (i.e. two conferences)?

2. Who is responsible for uploading the Conference Credit into e-Services?

I currently have 8 credits for watching these Webinars and would really like to get the Conference Credit as I work through Level 3.

Thanks in advance for any answers provided.

Completion date for everyone extended until 31AUGUST2025.

If I had to venture a guess, enough Senior Members didn't complete the Renewal by yesterday's deadline and nearly ALL CAP operations would need to cease nationwide.

But what do I know.  ;D

Uniforms & Awards / Re: New Navy Blue Tactical Cap

I made one for me and one for my brother. Hand sewed the nametapes on the back and used a 2x2 velcro pad on front. It had an adhesive back but I sewed it on for extra support. Purchased the same velcro rank tabs that are for the fleece.

Since Vanguard doesn't sell this item yet, making it yourself is the only way to get it. The closest commercial version I could find had a 2x3 instead of 2x2, so it would have to be altered/trimmed back.

Personally I'm not a fan of the velcro nametape on the back as it is too wide. Instead I shortened the width of the nametape and sewed it directly without any velcro.

The rank square kinda looked a little weird to me but its grown on me. Now I think it looks pretty cool.  Im glad we've got this option now because I can wear it with the polo shirt.

Quote from: Storm Chaser on July 29, 2025, 07:23:24 PMI don't mean to reopen an old post, but I read CAPR 39-1 and ICLs 25-02 and 21-01, and I can't find in which pocket the Volunteer University Instructor Badge is worn. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Like all other Service Badges, except the National Service Badge, it is normally worn centered on the Left Pocket. See the chart in Attachment #4.

Here's the "but", only the National Service Badge has to be worn center on the Right Pocket. You can wear a maximum of four badges, normally two Aviation, Occupation and/or Skill Badges above the ribbons and two Service or Specialty Badges on the pocket centers.

There are exceptions to this rule such as a foreign Badge (above the Nametag), USAF Missile Badges (Left Pocket), Military Excellence in Competition Badges (Left Pocket Flap), Army Driver and Mechanics Badge (Left Pocket Flap), Army and USMC Marksmanship Qualification Badges (Left Pocket Flap). But those only apply to prior service Members who hold those types of award. Again, four is the maximum.

Now the regulation is unclear which takes precedence a Service or Specialty Badge, it only states the National Service Badge must be worn on the right side pocket and if you have two badges that go on the Left Pocket, you may move one to the right pocket. Because the regulation doesn't specify, except for the National Service Badge, you get to choose which one to wear on the Left Pocket and which one to wear on the Right Pocket.

Personally, I think a Service Badge should take precedence over a Specialty Track Badge so I would wear your Instructor Badge on your Left Pocket Center and move your most senior Specialty Track Badge to the Right Pocket Center. Unless you have two Service Badges, then whichever you consider most important, as they are all equal, you can wear it left and the other right. Again, National Service Badge must be worn on the right.

Wear of any badge is optional, so you may choose to wear one, two, or none of your badges.

So there you go. Clear as mud?

Thank You, Sir.

As Ned said, the event must have two trained ("approved") members current in CPPT.

The regulation is not intending to say that parents can't remain at the activity just as it is also not saying that parents can substitute as supervision.

Here's an example:
We had a squadron cookout last week. Hot dogs and hamburgers in the park. We did some ES training beforehand, and then had families hang around and dine with us, play some games, etc. That activity requires at least two adult leaders (CAP members, CPPT current). Although the parents are there, it's a CAP activity; thus, the CAP supervision applies.

Just yesterday, I had to cancel the squadron meeting due to another event that a couple of us senior members needed to be at elsewhere. We had two senior members scheduled to be present plus a parent who was going to help with rifle drill instruction. That parent is not yet a CAP member (although is intending to put in an application). One of the two senior members had to cancel due to a last-minute work issue, leaving us with one senior member. Under the old CPP guidance, we could make it work. Under the current guidance, absolutely not. We did not have the adequate supervisory coverage.

I have seen instances recently where units have asked parents to stick around to provide extra supervision (which they are NOT supervision at CAP activities; not according to regulation) or to even ask squadron senior members to supervise their own cadets at wing-level activities (which is also not a regulatory requirement).

Your instincts are correct:  as described, this event violates one of our Universal Standards of Practice.

Take a look at the current 60-2, paragraph 2.6.4 - this kind of activity requires the presence of two adult leaders in approved status.  Not one approved member and a parent.

That said, it sounds like everyone involved is trying to do the right thing, and any risk to the cadets for this particular violation of our best practices feels low to me.

I'm glad that cadets are getting some tutoring, and the tutor is volunteering extra time to help our cadets.  That is normally a Good Thing.  Just fine tune this a bit and everything will be fine.
