Does anyone have any idea if I can take the ECI 13 while in Iraq?

Obviously, I am talking about the current course; if it goes online I think I know the answer.  :)

By the time the books found you over there, the course would probably have been replaced.

I took SOS while I was stationed in Okinowa.  Only hitch was to get an Officer to proctor the test.

If your base has a USAF testing office you can.  Just use their control number to request the test instead of your wing TCO.

Wait till the test goes on line (December 2009) and then you can take it with a computer.

If he is already enrolled in the ECI 13 he has to finish it or he will get locked out of all ECI course

Can you provide a cite? I'm enrolled in ECI13 for a second time because I didn't request the test on time last time. I didn't have a problem getting enrolled.

How long a lapse was there from the time you enrolled again? ECI had a requirement of six months before re-enrollment. It may have changed.

As to a cite, that's something Air Force personnel know about because they're briefed when they do their CDC's by a supervisor or Unit Training Manager, and it's included in the training counseling statement. Just because there isn't a cite readily available does not make it a false statement.

It was over 6 months. I'm not calling BS on it I just need to see it in writing so my wife doesn't get screwed over in the future because she's currently enrolled but is thinking of dropping it in favor of the new course.

When I left, the mail was taking a couple of weeks to get from CONUS.

Most bigger bases should have testing centers set up because of the PCS personnel needs.  I think they've got them at Balad and Kirkuk.  Talk to the AEW Base Education office.

First major problem - this is predominately an Army FOB.   I can probably count the USAF and Navy folks on my fingers and toes.

I had/studied the books (they are at home -- oops), just not sure if I can take the test.

I have no problem waiting for the online version - but how sure are we that it will actually go online?

LtCol057

I think I read the online version should be online in Dec 09, which really means it'll be online in Jan 2011 or later.

The last time I had this issue, you were locked out of ECI for a year if you didn't finish a course.

Source:  Page 14 of the Extension Course Program Administrative Information, Last Updated: February 2009, states:
Enrollments in specialized courses will be voluntary. Any enrollment cancelled for nonparticipation in a specialized course will incur a six month restriction.

If you are deployed and are unable to test due to lack of facilities, you can have a one year extension.  Page 20 covers this.

I think it started out at a year, but dropped to six months. In your case, you went past the six months, so it didn't present any issue.

As to your wife's enrollment, I don't think the new online is controlled by ECI or AFIADL (or whatever they're actually calling themselves now), so dropping the 13 course shouldn't be a problem. Probably best to talk with your PDO, and see if that person can get clarification. The PDO will probably discourage it, but ask anyway.

Officer Basic Course: The CAP Officer Basic Course has now entered beta testing. A small number of CAP members have been selected from around the country to test the new Officer Basic Course to prepare it for a general release on or about Jan. 1, 2010. This testing will continue throughout the fall. The Officer Basic Course will replace ECI-13, CAP Senior Officer Course in 2010. Members who have enrolled in the ECI-13 course prior to the transition will be allowed to complete ECI-13. CAP/PD will set a date later this fall after which no enrollments in ECI-13 will be accepted. Request and extension due to AOR deployment.

How hard would it be to get over to Balad AB or KRAB?  Contact the AEW Education office at the nearest AB FOB, the test can be scheduled with 24 hours notice (I think it might be online, but am not sure).

Not feasible both due to responsibilities here and the unreliable flight schedules, weather, and available space.

I'll just wait for the online course or to get home, I guess.  Not like I can be promoted out here...  :D
