Does anybody know an alternative to National Staff College that a captain can take via distance learning?

lordmonar

No.  ACSC requires you to be a Major and AWC you have to be LT Col IIRC.

If you have a Senior NCO course it will substitute. Caution can only be used once.

YES!

Squadron Officer School (SOS.)  I'm surprised nobody mentioned it.

I took the CD-ROM version in '04, it was actually kind of fun.

ACSC was more of a grind, though.

Squadron Officer School is not an equivalent  for National Staff College, it is an equivalent for Region Staff College.

Equivalent to National Staff College
Code P Any US Armed Forces Senior NCO Academy (Pay Grades E-7 - E-9), resident or

Code X Any US Armed Forces Command and Staff College, resident, seminar, or correspondence
Code T Any US Armed Forces War College, resident, seminar, or correspondence

I guess the next question is why a Captain is so concerned about NSC or RSC that he needs an alternative.

Assuming natural progression even the RSC won't be needed for 3-7 years.

Depends on how far a member is in PD: you can get your Garber as a Capt.

lordmonar

I am currently a Capt....I need 1 requirment to complete my Level III (Attend a 2nd Wing Conf), I have completed all my Level IV requirments (except finishing level III) and I need NSC for Level V.

So it is not too unusual for a Capt to be looking ahead to fill his blocks....I know that I am.

Well Pat, if you had done SNCOA before you put your retirement papers in, you wouldn't have to do NSC.

But you still can do it via correspondance because you're in CAP!

My NCOA was used for ECI 13 and my SNCOA was used for RSC....so I still need to do NSC.....but I got a plan.

I just signed up for ECI 13...once that is done I will resubmit my letter to bump up my PME up one level! ;D

Like I said...it is not unusual for a lowly Capt to be looking ahead to fill in his required blocks ;D

I am also a Capt, I've completed level III, and all but RSC for Level IV, and only need NSC for level V

I have enrolled in SOS, and as soon as that is done will start looking for the quickest way to complete NSC

When I took ACSC, you could do it as a Captain. So I was able to get my GRW as a Captain. Of course that was in 1983.

You still can...you just have to ask for a waiver....and if there are class seats available they will let you in....at least they have in the past....times may have changed.

ACSC has a distance learning version that CAP members in the grade of Major and above can take.

It's a 10 MONTH school at Maxwell. You think you can survive not being paid for 10 months?

Additionally, can you afford to PAY for the course? CAP members may take AF courses (with approval) if their attendance does not cost the AF anything.

I think the expense would be 10 months of billeting @ $24 a day. Meals are on your own.

lordmonar

Oops...my bad I though he asked about NCS....you can get a waiver for NCS as a Capt...ASCS by correspondance is open to majors....no waiver as far as I know...you will have to ask AU A4/A6.
PATRICK M. HARRIS, SMSgt, CAP

airdad

there is no waiver available for NSC , according to 50-17 and the nice folks @ NSC
