Well, yet another summer down the drain.

I got "adjusted" TODAY from my class that was supposed to be leaving 13 June, back to the one leaving 30 May. That's THIS Friday!! That SUCKS!!!! I was really looking forward to another couple weekends of freedom.

Anyway, I finish getting kicked in the junk OCS this summer, be done 26 July. Commission on 6 Sep. Lots of adult beverages on Lake Travis in Aug to make up for lost time.

Then off to flight school assuming they actually got my slot lined up so I'll be back in time to deploy. You never can tell with the Army; if it made sense we wouldn't do it, not without 30 pages of justification anyway.

Wish me luck. Pray for no injuries, or at least for a medic with lots of motrin. I'll catch yall when I get back.

Congrats, and good luck.  Where are you going?  Are you doing accelerated OCS and traveling to Ft Lewis this Summer for Warrior Forge?  If so, I am heading out shortly for the tear down of the Advanced Party for the course, and always love to Mess with speak to OCS guys.   

Anyway.....Just remember to tell yourself when it is really sucking.......September 6 2008.  That is your goal, and you would be surprised how much more mental Army training is than anything else (as you know).  Don't let the Staffers get to you, and make some friends there (that is always important later on in your career).

Becoming an Officer (either Warrant or Commissioned) is a very elite club you are about to join.  Enjoy the journey there, and bring back some awesome memories. 

You are actually in a smaller "club" that knows exactly what it means to be enlisted.  I only had a small enlisted experience, not even a year.  I always believed though that Officers who had themselves been enlisted make better Officers, and can relate to their Soldiers.  It is actually very visible both in Garrison and Deployed which Officers were Prior-Enlisted and which were West Pointers and ROTC Cadets. 

All the best to you, and hopefully when you get back this summer your wait between return and actual Commissioning goes quick.  That can be the longest couple of weeks you will ever wait for anything in your life (or at least it seems to be).

Our traditional class is going to Ft Lewis end of the summer. I am in an accelerated class. I do all three phases in one place, which is going to be wonderful South Dakota. Hopefully that's not as hot & humid as Ft McClellan, AL that I was supposed to be going to. I don't care where it is, just so I freakin get there & the dumb thing over with ASAP. Every day in pain is one day closer to done.

Rumor is... they got optional air assault slots when we get back to eat up some of that time. That'd be nice, we'll see if that pans out. I'll take the extra couple weeks pay.

Amen, brother.  I did both OBC and AOC at Mt McClellan (yes, I'm an old guy), and it was a trifle . . .  warm.

And the locals made you feel a little like An Officer and a Gentleman, if you know what I mean. . .

I wasn't sorry when they moved most of the Army out of there.  I didn't realize they still do OCS phases on post.

Great school, good skills.  You learn a lot about things like "Applied Static Electricity Theory."

I was at Benning all last summer. Sand on everything & those dang nats. Figured it'd be about the same.

Got Ft Meade, South Dakota (as opposed to Maryland). That's a ways north of Rapid city in Sturgis. And that's about all I've figured out about the place so far. Love this 48hr notice crap.

In my 30 yrs, never heard of Ft Meade, SD.  Have been to Sturgis: best thing about it is that it is close to the Black Hills.

South Dakota in the summer is no bed of roses, but the humidity is less than Benning.  Watch out for tornados.

Don't forget, Ft Hood is only an hour away from Austin! My friend Mike Sim (a former CAP senior member) is stationed there. He commissioned last June from ROTC.
