Hi guys, Im 17 and am working on enlisting in the Army. I will not be graduating high school till next year however, so I will be entering the Future Soldier Program. Heres my problem, I was really Hoping to get the grade boost the Civil Air Patrol gets you, but you have to be a 2nd Lt. to get it. I am currently only a C/SSgt and don't know if I will be able to achieve 2nd Lt. in time. I know that C.A.P. allows you to promote every month instead of the standard 2 if your in JROTC. I have, however, heard that you can do the same thing if you are in the Future Soldier Program. I heard this from another cadet who was unsure if it was true, so I did some research and could find nothing to either confirm on discredit this. So can anyone here tell me if this is true? Thanks guys.

Is the Future Solder Program....just a fancy name for delayed enlistment?

As for advanced promotions.....NO....the only program that gets you accelerated promotions is JROTC (any service) and you have to have 2 year completed.

As for getting the rank bump for Mitchell....talk with the recruiter.....I don't know the rules....but if you go into delayed enlistment....any rank bumps may not be applied until you actual go to basic.

Also another question:  If you have a whole year left in school.....why the rush to go delayed entry?   It is not like the Army is going away anytime soon.

As a C/SSgt...if you apply yourself you can get your Mitchel done by this time next year.

No, delayed enlistment does not provide you the opportunity to promote faster.

Cadets may complete Achievement 1 any time after joining CAP... All other achievements require a minimum separation of 8 weeks (56 days) between each achievement and milestone award (except as noted for JROTC in chapter 10)... Cadets who possess 2 or more years of JROTC experience may qualify for accelerated promotions in CAP.

There are no references to delayed enlistment or Future Soldiers Program in CAPR 52-16, which prescribes the requirements for promotions.

Future Soldier is the multi national advanced warfighter information development program.

Future Soldiers (with and "s") is the new term for DEP.

My understanding based on experience with previous cadets, including one that just reported to the recruiter for the Navy a couple weeks ago, was the Mitchell needed to be in hand by the day he reported.

Apply yourself, knock it out. You can do it.

..and I have rolls of solder and PCB's stacked up on the desk.. assembling hard drive cards for Apple II computers. Last place I expected to see a roll of solder .. on CAPTalk. ;)

When I was an Army recruiter about six years ago..... The DEP could receive a promotion up to PFC for enlistments that they recruited.  If I remember correctly it was three enlistments for every promotion.

IIRC, doesn't the Army only give E-2 for Mitchell, while the Air Force gives E-3??  Go Air Force... You can either play in the dirt and live in tents or live in nice rooms and go to the Club...  Some choice???

The linked post is no longer true as of the 1 February 2013 revision to AR 601-210. "Stacking" is no longer referenced and even 3 years of JROTC will only allow E-2 now.

Devil Doc

If your in JROTC, Why worry about the Mitchell? If you do three years of JROTC you get E-3 or atleast I did. The only branch you do not get E-3 from JROTC is the Marines, which make you an E-2. Just rememeber that is your rank, after you graduate bootcamp untill then your just there little maggot, lol.

That is no longer true. As Wilhelm147 stated in the post above yours, AR 601-210 paragraph 2-18 now entitles individuals with two or more years of JROTC to enlist in the Army (both AC & RC) as a PV2 (E2). The same paragraph entitles Mitchell recipients to PV2 (E2) as well.

After basic training any E-1 who had no prior ROTC or CAP experience will be able to march, salute, shoot, etc. as good as those who have this experience.  It gains you nothing past the first two or three weeks.   There is no benefit to the Army or any service to award rank based on these activities.

just a pay bump. honestly, when I went in after 5 years as a non-Mitchell cadet, and having met a couple who did get their Mitchell, we were selected for special duties such as participating in two Change of Command ceremonies and winning the platoon drill-downs. We just had a slight edge over those who came in off the street, so to speak. Of course, I was a little too high-speed and kept showing up the rest of the platoon, earning the stink eye from the platoon sergeant and most of the rest of the guys...field stripping an M-16 (not something I learned in CAP, mind) before the DI could give the instructions really sealed my fate.
Still a major after all these years.

What about the ability to learn and stick with something voluntarily for two years?

Unless things have changed recently, advanced rank on entry gets paid as such from day one, but you get no other recognition for the advanced rank until graduation.

The Army also used to award PFC to Eagle Scouts. Not anymore, E-2.
