There is no benefit to the Army or any service to award rank based on these activities.
What about the ability to learn and stick with something voluntarily for two years?
Just another recruiting tool....it is not like they really care.  The USAF used to offer advanced rank just for signing up for six years.
Eagle Scouts, Mitchells, JROTC Grads, people with college credit.....they are all good people....and the bone they throw them does not really cost the military all that much.

Yeah, considering its an automatic promo anyway.  Not much difference in the world of an E-1 and an E-2.  E2 takes the trash bag out of the trash can and makes the E1 walk it to the dumpster.

Not sure of other services, but in the Marines, there is a definite separation of ranks.  If you are in a group of E1's and have PFC stripes on, you better be taking charge of the nasty E1s like a platoon Sgt.   As an E3/LCpl, you are an "NCO in training" and Lord help you if you ever get caught by an NCO letting Pvts and PFC slime around and not take charge.  If you are all the same rank, the senior guy is responsible for EVERYTHING even if he is senior by 1 day.

The people I knew in the military and were previous CAP cadets excelled far beyond their peers. Some leadership training that cadets receive in CAWG was better than Army courses that I attended.

You are clearly referring to that Marine who used to come up to Ft Myer on the weekends and school those Army nasties! >:D

Not even that much separation in the USAF.  In basic and tech school....unless you are a rope/dorm chief/ element leader you are a PINGER just like everyone else....and once you get to your first duty station...until you get your 5 level and put on SrA you are pretty much a peon no matter what rank you wear.

Nothing funnier then a bunch of Amns and A1Cs arguing about who out ranks who!

Sort of like a group of Army doctors(all Captains) who had to resort to comparing serial numbers to determine which job they got around the operating table when a poor GI came down with appendicitis and had to have surgery on the troop ship going to VN.
