My friend was wondering about the exact regs for PDA. Anyone know all the regs on this?

2-3. a. Decorum. Cadets will conduct themselves in a professional and appropriate manner at all times while at CAP meetings or activities. Cadets will not engage in inappropriate touching or public displays of affection by kissing, hugging or holding hands (or similar conduct) while in uniform.

I agree. However, from time to time people do have a quick hug. Leaving an encampment is one of the times I've seen it happen. According to the policy, as written, that's something cadets should not do. I don't quite agree with it, but I can see the potential PITAs that can formulate. Part of our "kid gloves" society I guess.

But in all seriousness, as a cadet, the absolute statement was somewhat odd. Now as someone older, and as someone who never cared for hugs, I can see the can of worms that can arise from something as simple as a hug.

I don't see it as ignoring the rule, but making a determination as to what's appropriate, just like it says in the regulation.

There is a world of difference between a goodbye hug, or even one of appreciation or sentiment between peers, and walking formation holding hands in uniform, or any of the other 12 ridiculous things many of us have seen.  I hugged a number of people this year when I was being voted off the island at encampment, hardly inappropriate.

I make no bones about the fact tat I think any dating or similar relationships in CAP, especially those involving cadets,  are inappropriate and should be discouraged, but with that said, the verbiage about PDA is there to insure we present a professional image, respect the uniform, and teach our members about proper public decorum, not deny our humanity.

I always find it interesting, though, the natural predisposition of people, when told "you can't do that", to immediately look for the most extreme loophole
to reply "yes, I can."

I have been on executive staff for 10 years, commanding it for the last eight, and thought is was time for a new guy to run things and was relieved of duty
at the end of graduation.

Eclipse has been a "regular" at this particular encampment for 10 years, with most of those as the Encampment Commander. This year was his last.

They're pretty much the same as what the Air Force has. Can't really speak for the other services though.

I've seen Military personnel hug. I've seen CAP personnel hug.

While the regulation makes it seem like a blanket ban on "touch", it's clear that most people permit it within reasonable bounds.

Now hunting down cadet male staff because they are always trying to be around female staff...that's when conversations start to happen.
