Too bad the actual exams aren't free!

I just found out the AGI exam is $150 at my local FBO.!!!  Holy cow.  For an online exam!!??  So Im looking at $450 for the FOI, IGI and AGI.  Oh well.

If you are a flight instructor, you don't need the ground instructor.  It's just more money.  I never got them and I taught ground schools as a CFI.  If you are not getting the CFI then, you may need them.?

Save the triangle thingy

Im not a CFI.  Our unit CFI-H has 41 years on the job and 25,000 hrs.  He will be retiring pretty soon.  I am going to do them to assist with the bi-annuals, and hopefully put myself in a good position to become the next unit "sponsored" CFI courtesy of the tax payer.  I am the only dual commercial rated member in the unit, so my plan is to do CFII-SEL and then tell them "You know, for a little more I could get my CFI-H also." >:D
He is a helo CFI only and is really lacking in the "ground" portion of flight instructing.  When I need an airplane CFI, I have a guy I contract with through work.
I know, sad...but true.  But if you want someone to teach you how to fly long line, mountain SAR techniques, fire fighting, engine outs, etc. he'd be your guy.  If you want someone to teach you how to read a radar summary chart....ummm, not your guy.  I think he's been doing it so long, he forgot how to tell someone how it is that he knows why he does what he does  (wheeeew  did that last part make sense?)

I'm not sure why exactly, but my school went up from $80 to $130 for each test.  It was said to be a  cost incurred from the FAA.

I had the opposite problem starting out as I had less than 200 hours when I got my CFI.

The only thing about the AGI is that I am reading about blimps and gyro's.....uhhhhhhhg.  Can I sign a waiver stating that I swear I will never talk about a blimp or a gyro?!!
