According to statistics SAR missions are down 29 %. Homeland Security is up 45% due to technological advances.  What role would we help in Homeland Security?

I think it's time you start studying for your second stripe.

Is google blocked on your computer?  What about www.gocivilairpatrol.com?  What about the "search" function icon on top of this page?

And....have you ever read your CAP Volunteer Magazine?

If not, go to http://www.capchannel.com/volunteer_magazine

You'll find an article about CAP's role in Homeland Security in every issue.

Unfortunately as a cadet you are limited in what you can do in HLS missions to about...zero.

Aren't most or all of the HLS missions only for aircrew?

Yes. So until a cadet turns 18 and can fly missions, cadets are pretty much excluded from HLS missions.

There are plenty of ways cadets can participate. Flight line to launch the aircraft for DHS missions for example. For a real world BTDT that happened around here: last year we had a lot of flooding and IN-DHS tasked our ground teams with ground photo recon and damage assessment 75% of GTMs up here are cadets.

Thats disaster relief stuff, not homeland security in the context that I think cadet w was asking about.

I'm sure you're right but it's still technically a mission for Department of HomeLand Security  ;D Happy New Year River.

If your device is capable of accessing this site then it is capable of accessing Google. Also do not capitalize every word in a sentence it makes it harder to read. Your profile says you are 17. That makes you a junior or senior in high school. Please try to pay more attention in English class or your adult life will be more difficult.

Since FEMA is part of US DHS and in many states their state DHS oversees disaster relief I would say DR is part of HLS. In addition to photo missions, INWG filled a lot of sand bags over the last few years (mostly cadets....sadly many seniors are not up for that mission).

That said I am sure what is being discussed is prevention type missions with the aircraft.

I can't speak for the entire country but where I am from we were running about 15 to 20 missions a year before SARSAT stopped 121.5 monitoring. The last month of 121.5 SARSAT we had 6 missions in one month. Since then its been 14 or 15 months with no SAR missions and 1 DR mission.

I see no real effort to get more local type SAR missions....like missing people and such. It looks to me that we are becoming an air ops only operations/missions organization.
