Happy Birthday Marine Corp!

Major Lord
"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee."

BTW, it's Marine Corps...there's an "s" at the end.

I already sent text messages and emails to all my family and friends who are Marines, to include CAP Major George Otto, my mentor when I joined CAP in 1987.

Semper Fi, do or die, hold 'em high at Eighth and Eye, gung ho, gung ho, gung ho!*

Happy birthday to der Teufelhunden wherever they may be! My late father was a Marine.

I'll be taking part in the Kwajalein Veteran's Day ceremonies this morning (it's already Veteran's Day here on Kwaj.)

* Eighth and Eye - Location of the Marine Barracks in Washington D.C (8th and I ('Eye') Streets SE); Gung ho - Chinese for 'strive for harmony'; motto of the Marine Raiders that stormed onto Makin Island (about 700 miles south of Kwaj in what is now Kiribati). Four Raiders were captured and later executed by the Japanese near Flagpole Hill in Kwajalein. Gung ho is now synonymous with the Marine fighting spirit.

You know, I have always wondered about that. Is there more than one Corp within the Corps? If Corps is collective plural, (like its preceding word, "Corpus", meaning the "entire body")  then we should refer to the Corps as plural, i.e," the Corps are" rather than" the Corps is". The USMC website refers to the organizational name BOTH ways, but I can't understand from context what the difference is. I have E-mailed my Marine contacts for clarification!
