He propagated illegal immigration, draconian gun control, and more recently, government run health care.  Why are any patriotic Americans mourning?

Because if it werent for him and people that think like him.i wouldnt a Captain in the U.S. Army today. We would still be drinking out of segregated water fountains.

Its amazing how the only thing peple think about when they think about Ted Kennedy is a tragic incident. They forget about the Civil Rights legislation that was past. Guess thats not really important to thiese folks. But it is important to millions of Americans nation wide. Its a turning point in our history. Again, I guess it depends on your values and beliefs and whats important. The Kennedy family believed in equal rights when the rest of priviledged America did not. I think thati s pretty significant.

People born after, let's say 1975-1980, would even remember this stuff ans some of the IMPORTANT things individuals did do for the country

Every thing after 1980 seems more important.  Anything earlier and some of these folks would not know it unless they read something about history.  "Cuz to them its "ancient history."

Mike warned us not to get political.  Yet here we go!

You know there were African American Officers in the Army way back in the 1870's.

However, the first Spanish American Officer was admitted in 1912.

The First Woman Officer was shortly before that.

The First Chinese Officer was in 1905.

Don't forget the impact of people whose name was NOT Kennedy.

I love history.  More people should get interested in it.  It has a very real way of relating to our generation and the challenges we face.  We should learn from the mistakes of past generations and not blame people today for their stupid decisions.

In 100 years, this same conversation will take place, though the names will be different, and we will have all been forgotten.  Sad yes, but life does go on.

I am more interested in reading and writing about Kennedy's dedication to OUR Country, than about politics.
