For sure I would get with your group or wing Comm Officer and let them know the situation you're in. I did that right away when I stepped into ES, and that's set me on the right track. And if it's really too much to handle, make sure your chain of command knows that. If you're asking us on here, your squadron brass should be on the same page as well...

Even if you ignore the CAPR 52-16 prohibition on cadets holding any senior staff position in CAPR 20-1... there are other issues that should preclude a cadet from holding the position fo'realz.  Like being responsible for property.

Betcha it's something like the CC will be the signature for everything official, but he gets to do all the "fun stuff" (read: gopher work)

Where do you feel like you're in over your head?

Yeah... and call it what it is: Cadet Communications NCO.  Participate in Nets or act as the Net Control Station, but don't be passing yourself off as the Squadron COMMO... even if you don't have one.

1. Find your unit's S-8 report. Go through it. Physically check everything on the report. If it's assigned to someone, have them bring it in. If it's installed in a vehicle, have the vehicle brought in or go to the vehicle and check the equipment. Make sure the serial number, CAP asset tag number, and equipment description match. Report any discrepencies in writing to your commander. If something is missing, request your commander initiate a Report of Survey. That is required with in 30 days of discovery.

2. Find out who teaches B-CUT and A-CUT in your area. Take them if you haven't already.

3. Get your MRO rating.

4. Take (and pass) the online Communications Officer Technician test.

5. If you have a radio, make sure you are checking into nets regularly. 25% of local nets is a good target - and a requirement for the Communications Officer technician rating.

6. Keep track of all of this. Dig out CAPP 214 and list when yuo compllete each requirement for the technician rating. When you have completed all you can as a cadet, submit a CAPF 2A for the Communciations Officer Basic badge. Yes, as a cadet, you can earn and wear it - plus the Senior and Master badges.

Okay will do, I passed the technicians class last night, I have MRO and CUL* all I need is a 300 course, there are no local nets and I can't reach the nearest net because of our repeater being done and I dont think it'll be fixed with 3 months so how would I fill that requirement for the technician badge and comms patch because I have completed everything else just not he net requirement.

please take this as constructive.

Delusions of Grandeur.

I could be wrong, but I don't think a cadet (unless they are over 18) would even be allowed to take ICS 300.

If you are in fact over 18 and wish to step up into the role as Communications Officer, I think it's time to take on FO.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask.  If it's something you think might be a stupid question, send me a PM and I will answer your question truthfully and as correctly as I can.

Cadets can in fact take the 300 course I had the oppurtunity but couldn't because of a family emergency. As for me acting as the comms officer I am the one running the comms in the unit so.....

I don't know that I've heard of the wing DC not liking your squadron, or Group XII. Regardless, if there are issues between any of you, please have Capt Whitacre contact me and I'll be sure that we get them sorted out appropriately.  ;)
