Came across this, first on youtube, seeming like brother/cousin aviators to me...

My question...have we any contact with these folks?  They are "Observe and Report," lots of contrasts and comparisons to be made.  I just discovered there was a thread on this before a few months ago.

We also listed other Civil Air Patrols in Latin American and Australia.  Could there be a International Civil Air Patrol movement?  If so, what might that mean for future outreach?

So is this only for pilots or is it basically like a British CAP?

Looks like retirees.  The same basic premise as us, but without SAR and cadets.  Basically "eyes in the sky."  They use private aircraft, no government involvement.  Lead me to wonder if we are the only Government Air Force supported CAP of all of them.

Just like CAP but no cadets, no SAR, no funding, only private aircraft and no association to the military.  Im sorry....where were the similarities?

I did a quick google search and there does seem to be many counties that have civilain air seach and rescue groups.

There is the Brazil CAP, a group in the philipines that got training from the PAF, a couple in the UK.  Is there an international movement like the ICRC or the World Organisation of Scouting Movements?  I don't think so.

The CG Aux is very pro-active in working with CG Aux units in other nations.  Haven't ever heard of CAP doing it though.

There's a letter from a CAP member on page 5 of their Nov-Dec 08 newsletter.

Didn't (doesn't) the CG Aux participate in an annual SAR skills competition in Canada?

RiverAux

That was stopped recently due to the very high costs.  Instead there is just now a competition within the US.

BuckeyeDEJ

Does CAP still do the national SAR competition? I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

No national one that I've heard of.  There are at least a few regional ones left (NER, for sure).

That's a shame.  As I recall, they acquitted themselves pretty well against some stiff competition - full time professionals were their competitors.

Too bad CAP doesn't do something like this.  I know that the National Board has rejected this, but I think that the competition and the striving for excellence would be good for the force.

Orville_third

There is at least one similarity besides the name. They have 182's and a Gippsland...

Hey, Didn't I read in Volunteer month ago that some CAP members did do that international competition?  ???  Anyways I heard some talk after NER about possible work on a National one. And a ribbon for that too!  ;)
