Any ideas who is behind this?

I just got spammed through an email unrelated to ES, but that was 100% scraped off my wing's website.

Looks like a front to sell stuff through Amazon.

Don't forget to pick up your bird flu pandemic kit and some mass-casualty body bags!

Hi -- I'm the one who "spammed" you.  I'm actually trying to provide a useful service offering articles and products people might not have thought of with regards to emergency preparedness.  If you'd like, I'll be happy to remove you from my email list.  Please send an "unsubscribe" message with your email address to publisher@disasterprepped.com.  Thanks.

Or you could just not spam people to start.

All I see is a bunch of links to overpriced Amazon sales.

Its easier to block you at my server and spamguard than assume you'll honor remove lists.

Scraping websites for email addresses is not cool, in fact its the height of spammer bad behavior.  Scraping websites of benevolent volunteer organizations to make a buck is...well...

1) Save that you didn't do a scrape or buy a list, because that's the only place that email has ever been used.  If you didn't scrape, than the guy you bought the list from did.  That's why people set up emails like these - to identify bad behavior.

2) Save "no good deed goes unpunished"  If I need a fireax or a pandemic kit, I have access to Google, and I'm sure not buying it from Amazon.

E-mail lists that are not Opt-In may be subject to very harsh penalties.

If you want to provide the type of service you describe, you have to find a way to advertise it and provide an Opt-In link and contact information.

Every e-mail you send must tell why you are sending it and must have an unsubscribe link.

There are some other specific rules covering various aspects of this type of business. The ones you need depend on the methods you use to promote and run your business.

I know tons of people will want to reply that they see e-mails and business websites that don't follow these rules. If the business is located in the USA or doing business with people located in the USA, they are breaking the law.
