Ok, I have done all my level one stuff and working on the other stuff in my starter book.  But, I was told I needed the CAP drivers license application.  I cannot find it anywhere on the net.   I have spent hours trying to find it.  I am in the TN wing if that matters.  Thanks.

Iron Medic: the application is likely in the reg that specifies how to obtain a drivers license: I don't know what it is.  I have been in CAP almost 16 years and have never had a license.  I don't do cadets, have never been in a unit that had a vehicle and never saw a good reason to get a license.  My advice: don't bother with it unless you are going to be dealing with a CAP vehicle and cadets immediately.  Get comfortable with CAP and your unit and then deal with all of these other distractions later.  Also, some CAP units seem to demand that all new members obtain some idiotic number of uniform combinations within the first 60 days of membership.  To me, that is ridiculous: buy the uniform that is used most by your unit and then see where your service takes you.  Uniforms can always be obtained as you find a need for them.

The requirements for obtaining a CAP Driver's License are generally set forth in CAPR 77-1.  However, in my experience, most Wings have "independent" procedures for obtaining a CAPF 75 (Driver's License).  Your squadron should be able to tell you the procedure in TN.

I also just joined a month ago and currently working on my Level One. I don't even have a starter book (I did read about its existence), where do (did) you get the starter book from? Thanks.

Vento,

You will recieve a "new member packet" through the mail from CAP NHQ (zippered binder) automatically once your membership is paid for. It should take a few weeks.

Welcome aboard...

One word of advice.. Avoid uniform threads!

iron medic

I got my card but no welcome pack.  My unit commander wants me to hurry up and get squared away.  I am chomping at the bit wanting to get everything done that I can.  The DL was just one little paper work thing to do.  All I need is the form and drive the van for the Col and I'm done.  All Level 1 stuff is done and then some.  Thnks for all the advice.  And uniforms !!!!  I told him I don't do dress, the closest thing is service blues.  I am more of a woodsy kinds guy (per my (current) wife).

The card shows up before the packet does.  The packet comes usually 2-3 weeks later...

Check with your unit commander about the procedures in your wing for getting a DL.  They should be very familiar with them and probably will have forms available.  Or check your wing web page for them.

Welcome to CAP.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask here.

My advice on the CAP "drivers license" is to get one even if your squadron doesn't have a vehicle or you don't expect to drive it if you do have one.  That way, if you need to drive on a mission or something, you'll be set.

CAP driver license comes in handy.  Especially when you need one!  I believe it is a CAPF 8 to request one and you will need a driving abstract from the DMV.  Welcome aboard.

Your driving record may or may not have to be requested by/sent directly to your wing, so you'll want to check on that.  The Commonwealth processes ours for free, in batches, and it's done directly by wing:

Wisconsin our's is free as well.  You just need to write "Government Agency" at the top of the application.
