Tell me if I am wrong, but did CAPNHQ issue a memo or something telling members to no longer use " U.S. Civil Air Patrol" in email signatures? Please link me to said regulation/memo please.

The "U.S." was officially removed from the lexicon in Nov 07, at which time ICL's, meeting minutes, and various related publications issued directives in that regard.

The original MAJCOM was disallowed permanently (the one that said Air Force Auxiliary).

The MAJCOM that has CIVIL AIR PATROL in the Scrol was officially adopted, and the one with the "U.S." was directed to be discontinued and phased out with a sundown of Mar, 2010.

Ditto for the "U.S." on the Nametapes.

Those same documents contained directions to discontinue using "U.S." in collateral, email signatures, signs, etc.

Q:
Is it true that CAP has rescinded the use of US Civil Air Patrol including the wearing of "US Civil Air Patrol" tapes on the BDUs?

A:
Yes the November 2007 NEC rescinded use of "US Civil Air Patrol" and returned to the title Civil Air Patrol. The Mar 2008 National Board approved a phase out date –1 March 2010 for wearing BDUs with the US Civil Air Patrol tapes.  The NEC also directed that NHQ instruct Vanguard not to make any more items with the name, "U. S. Civil Air Patrol"such as the Command Patch.

Ref: National Executive Committee Meeting Minutes  2 – 3 November 2007
U.S. Civil Air Patrol.
ACTION:  Approved that the name "Civil Air Patrol" is the official name and that all references to "U.S." be permanently removed and other references to "U. S. Civil Air Patrol" be phased out over a reasonable transition period based upon logistical practicality.

MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

FOLLOW-ON ACTION:  NHQ instructions to Vanguard not to make any more items with the name, "U. S. Civil Air Patrol."  These items will be phased out over a reasonable time frame.

Yes, immediate as in Nov '07.

If you Google around you'll find comments by Wing / Region CC's and the like to that effect. Bottom line after the ICL was issued we were no more the "U.S. CIVIL AIR PATROL"  than we were the "Royal Order of British Coventry", so keeping that in email tags would be inappropriate by implication if not also by directive.
