Has anyone other than me seen the posters that they have on ebay for sale. This is a large collection of posters with CAP related info. Does the price seem really high? I can do a custom poster for less than that with the unit patch and name. Has anyone ordered one?

Jim....I've seen them as "Buy Now" for $15. but the bid price is $10. I think that they look good to put in a Squadron meeting location, but I agree that price seems high. Wonder how many they sold since they been listed several weeks? I was thinking of getting the rank insignia from WW II, just to check the uniforms I've gotten. (can't find the WW II stripes with red background)

Are we talking about the "Eye's of the home skies" poster??

If so, $10 for a decent quality poster isn't really that bad.

There are about 10 of them now, in various configurations of past and current insignia, awards, and patches. The images of the posters are pretty small - to discourage copying - but everything looks to be original graphic art and not scans.

But yeah, holy cow on price! I think he'd sell ten $10 posters before one $60 poster. And not knowing the source, I'm not sure how accurate the information is or could be. They look nice, though.

If anyone has purchased one, post it on the board what the quality is like. I snagged all the .svg files from the CAP Wikipedia site and made some nice cadet promotion tracking charts, along with a senior professional development chart. From the looks of what is there, he may have done the same, but I can tell you it is a ton of work formatting it to look the way you want.

As for the "eye in the sky poster" I had some full color 11x17 made at the local print shop for recruiting, on gloss white 40# paper and they came in around $1-ish each for 100. I think the ebay guy is making a hefty margin, considering he has close to 5000 for sale.

By way of introduction, I'm the ebay poster seller and I am surprised (and humbled) to have made it on to CAPTALK!  The 11X17 posters are laminated and the price is a bit high because the printer charges me $5.00 a sheet for the lamination.  I plan on bying a laminator at which point the price will drop.  As far as the images, I make most of them myself using CorelDraw so the images are actual computer generated artwork and not scans.  Let me rephrase that...most of them are not scans.  As far as where I got the information, it comes out of CAPM 39-2 as well as a great deal of historical information including the book written by Maj. Lee Ragan and the set of Historical CAP regulations compiled by Col. Louisa Morse.  And a lot of it is experience.  I've been in the CAP for about twenty-five years and have actually worn some of this stuff!   For those of you who have bought one, I welcome your comments and suggestions.  Really, guys.  I'm starting to run out of ideas.

Thanks for your interest.

Hmm, I wonder if the CAP Inspector General has paid a licensing fee to CAP so that he can legally profit from making and selling items with the Civil Air Patrol name on them?

They look well done, kudos to the maker.

And yes, your own roll laminator will bring down your lamination costs drastically!

I have found that most ebay sellers who offer such items do it as a fundraising activity for their units.

I don't think Vanguard will care if it was a fundraiser or not, I bet they will want their money! Let's wait and see.

I wasn't bringing it up as a Vanguard issue, but rather the right of Civil Air Patrol to control how its name and symbols are used.  Needless to say I was quite disappointed by this response:

QuoteWhen they ask for it, I'll pay it.
as you would hope that a CAP Inspector General wouldn't be taking the "ask for forgiveness rather than permission" attitude that this displayed.

That's the Legal Officer's job to have a stick up their woo-hoo. IG's are a stick in the mud... just a little different  :D

I'm a Ground Team Leader... which means I shouldn't swear, jay walk or drive 5 MPH over the speed limit... but I do.

I would buy some of those posters if I had the extra ching. They're nice, and CAP's official source doesn't have anything like them.

Sir, perhaps a chart that shows all of the current CAP rank insignias and ribbons for both cadets and officers. The ones you have now show more history.

I apologize for the small size of the pics on ebay.  The CAP Ribbon History Chart has both the current and historical ribbons.  Also, the CAP awards & decorations chart shows all of the current medals, miniature medals and ribbons. The Rank insignia comparison charts show the current CAP officer and cadet grade in comparison with other services.  I will, however, put one together with just the CAP officer, NCO, and cadet ranks.  Thanks for the idea.

Yes, it would be nice to see them a little larger. It's so hard to make out most of it.

Vanguard doesn't sell CAP posters, and for that matter, nobody else does either.

It's not Vanguard that sends the black vans or C&D letters, it's NHQ Legal: remember that CAP gets a cut of the sales of CAP items from Vanguard.
