Ok, I know I may stir the pot a little...

35-6 states

Quoteb. Senior Ground Team Badge:
1) Be qualified as a CAP ground team leader in accordance with the CAP 60-series regulations or
2) Graduate from the CAP National Ground Search And Rescue School Advanced Course or equivalent program as determined by NHQ CAP/DO and certified by the school/activity director. Each wing and region is encouraged to host ground team schools with the intent of certifying their members. All schools must ensure trainees meet the current regulatory requirements for qualification in the specialty before the rating is awarded.

My question is...flame throwers ready....

Is the Hawk Mountain Advanced Ranger Course considered a CAP National Ground Search And Rescue School Advanced Course equivalent?

As I recall, Ohio Wing recognized Hawk as a SAR school and I was awarded the GT Badge upon completion of the school. Was this legit?

I am gathering the documentation from my Cadet days to provide to my new CC as proof of authorization to wear again, but I want to make sure it is legit before proceeding.

Has NHQ CAP/DO ever formally considered Hawk an equivalent?

Thanks

Ask NHQ CAP/DO.....local wing commanders do not have the authority to approve.

Why not just get "re" rated?

I'm from the school of "if you wear it, you better be able to do it" though. If you are wanting to wear something you earned years ago, but aren't current by (several) years, do you really feel you should wear it?

I'm not trying to be the posterior of a donkey here, but to get your GTM3 and then GTL is not that hard or take that much time. Most of the material should come back to you, and you should be able to eval through a lot of it. I personally don't advocate the GTM3 to GTL track, but if that little star means a lot, the option is there.

I agree with being qualified. Just trying to tie all the loose ends from the cadet days. I am in process of requaling.  ;)

Just did not know if my graduation certs from Hawk satisfied the reg as I was going through the recert process.

Thanks

To earn/re-earn the GTM badge, you need to complete the tasks on the SQTR. Credit for completing training does not automatically earn the badge. Directors at National SAR activities (NESA, etc) can approve the completion of the SQTR and the rating in place of the unit commander.

Back when I earned the GT badge, the course completion was the equivalent the completion of the SQTR tasks.

However, since my records predated SQTR (and were destroyed per directive), I do not have a record at national of the task completion.

Additionally, according to the reg snippit above, graduation from an equivalent school also satisfies the reg for GT badge awards with supporting documentation of graduation which I have. Thus the OR condition in the reg.

The weak link is if Hawk is an equivalent or not. Despite that, I am going to redo to get current. So I suppose I can wait to have the SQTR updated before wearing the badge already earned again.

NO.  If you need further guidance go to www.pawingcap.com  and click on "Hawk MTN", get the email for the School Commander or Director of Training and ask your question.  They will respond with "not yet, but we are hopeful that within the next five years it will be"

Good enough. Thanks.

I guess I was awarded my GTB on the basis of completing the tasks required at Hawk and getting a sign off from my Unit Commander. Since that record was destroyed, It is time to start over completely.

Will do. Thanks again for the info.
