I was wandering the airport yesterday sampling the various coffee's from the three different FBO coffee machines when I noticed what was obviously a Secret Service detail and motorcade setting up at one of the local FBO's.  I talked to one of the agent who told me McCain was inbound in about 15 minutes.  A quick Schmoooooze of the campaign people and next thing I know Im standing at the bottom of the stairs as McCain steps off his plane.  Pretty cool.

His parting words were, " I sure hope you guys fly better than I do."

Cool.  Yeah, I saw that he was in Fresno today (or was it yesterday).  I mentioned it to one of the ANG guys here at combat arms school.

Very cool...

A question related to security - would the Secret Service normally allow armed LEO's (or similar) near POTUS like that?  Assumed benevolence or not, seems at least a little risky.

Internet just died.  Will have to reply later.  Don't think POTUS security should be discussed openly  here.

Anyway... which one are you? Did you tell him you were CAP too? I wonder what his feelings about us are now.

I'm guessing either the 2nd to the 4th persons from the right.  That's only cause I can't read their name patches.

I have worked for a California police department and watched as our chopper landed and the observer exited and made an arrest at gunpoint.

Besides, you never know when you need to persuade the pilot to buy lunch . . . . .

PHall

Had that incident just up the road near Turlock where the air unit was first on scene and ended up landing so that the crew could try to stop some idiot from beating a child to death.
The observer ended up shooting the guy. Unfortunately, the kid died from the beating.
This happened about 10 days ago if you want to look it up.

Nominees get the same protective detail that POTUS gets.

I may just poop myself if someone called the cops and they landed a helicopter in my front lawn and arrested me. May be worth it if i could ride to the station in the back seat of the chopper though...  >:D

We fly armed because we are cops #1.  Second, we often land to assist ground units, or to handle calls in remote areas.  We also carry our rifles in the helicopter also.  We qualify with our weapons from the helicopter every 6 months. From the hover for the pistol and from the hover up to 60 knots with our rifles.

I am the bald guy second from the right.  And......No.  I didn't mention CAP.
