OK CAPTALKERS.......I am going to be attending the Reserve Officers Association Convention in Atlanta GA, 25-28 June 2008.  The Army is paying for me to go, and talk about ROTC.

I have NEVER been to Atlanta before.......what are some things I should make time to do or see??  (I plan to turn this into a mini vacation!!!)

I read there is a CNN tour......anyone done it?  Is it worth it?

Finally.....anyone else here going to the Convention?  Always nice to meet and chat with a CAPTALK friend!

I haven't been to GA in a while.  Let me know when you will be here to pick me up.

CNN tour is okay. The Coca-Cola museum tour was actually more fun.

There is the new aquirium in town, kind of expensive, but good, so I have heard.  South of Atlanta about 60 miles is Robins Air Force Base with an outstanding military aviation museum with lots and I mean lots of military Aircraft on display.  There is the Patriot Museum in downtown Atlanta that actually has a CAP display and well worth the money.  There are some notable Civil War displays and battlegrounds in the locale.  Fernbank Science Planetarium is good for evening stuff.  Many parks and historical things to see in the area.  Georgia Wing is having their summer encampment from June 21-28 at Ft. Stewart so you may not see too many cadets wandering around the town.  Underground downtown is a tourist thing with some restaurants and shops.  CNN building is still undergoing repairs from the tornado that went through recently.  Try to pick up a Creative Loafing newspaper (free all over town).  Those usually have the local stuff going on at the time.  I am in the area if you need anything specific.  (770) 941-6063 or (770) 605-7121.  Feel free to call.

^ I appreciate it, thanks Sir!  I will have to get my self to the World of Coca Cola!  I hear there is a room where you can try every single Coca Cola product from all over the world.  I am excited.

Mister Johnny

I would recommend the following:

The Varsity  right by Georgia Tech, I would recommend a Chili Cheese Dog, Onion rings, and a large Frosted Orange

The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site. Dr. King's home and Ebenezer Baptist Church, which are a block apart

Stone Mountain. Take the cable car to the top. Great view of Atlanta if it is a clear day.
