Long Island Group will be hosting a Ground Search and Rescue School this July, from 03 July 08 (for students) and 02 July 08 (for staff) until 06 July 08.

The mission of the Long Island Group Search and Rescue Academy is to foster a common training environment and standardized level of training for CAP units, home and abroad. Through physical, mental, and social stressors it is the mission of this Academy to enable us to protect those in peril from harm, while challenging and educating us to hone our skills so as to excel in every facet of the emergency services mission of Civil Air Patrol.

This school is open to both Cadets and Senior Members.

"Eagerness and thrill seeking in others' misery is psychologically corrosive, and is also rampant in EMS. It's a natural danger of the job. It will be something to keep under control, something to fight against."

Shame it's not in early June as that is when we'll be passing through the area on our bikes. Would be fun to visit and see how you guys do things.

We will be leaving DC right after Father's Day (Jun 18th) and riding the C&O Canal - Allegheny Trail to Pittsburgh. I figure that a rail-trail with a 4% grade will be the easiest way for a bunch of flatlander touristers to make it through the Appalachians.

Of course, we'll be back in Jul for a week, but will be on the Greyhound then from Oshkosh to Harrisburg and back.

Back to the Long Island training, I would like to make contact with some of the Long Islanders as we go through...we will be riding kind of slow as my 18yo will be flying back home for drill and we don't want to hit NYC without him.

Well, let me know when you're swinging through the area. Stop by my squadron meeting and then we'll hit up a diner or what not.

When and where do y'all meet? We'll be dropping off the rental car at MacArthur on Wed Jun 4th and taking the train out to Montauk on the 5th to start the actual ride. We'll be the guys in day-glo t-shirts....oh yeah, and riding bicycles.
