OK, silly question.

How the heck does one get a Commanders Approval in eServices? I mean for PreReqs? I am wanting to to GTM training and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to get that block filled.

How do I let the commander know I want to do this besides emailing him and having him go online and do it? Or is that the only way.

Thanks.

Using the SQTR Entry in OpsQual

Approvals required
u. When all prerequisite tasks have been entered, enter the date for "Commander
Approval for Prerequisites".
v. When all Familiarization and Preparatory tasks have been entered, enter the date for
"Commander Approval for Familiarization and Preparatory Training"
w. When these two Approval tasks have been approved, the Achievement will show on
the CAPF 101 card as a Trainee. See Para 13-0, Approval Module for more details.
x. When all tasks have been completed, the Achievement will be Waiting for Approval. It
will show in the Table of Current Achievements as "Pending Unit Approval".
The Achievement will remain "Pending Unit Approval" until the approving authority uses the
"OPS Qual Approval Module" application to approve these tasks.

Everytime I try to get something like this, it tells me the same that the WMU says. My commander has no ES specialties, and is not SET qualified to sign off. I usually end up having my former commander approve these things once I show him what I've completed.

^The commander shouldn't need to be SET qualified to approve Prerequisites and Familiarization and Preparatory Training. All it is is to verify that you have completed all of your tasks so you can be a trainee.  It does require someone SET qualified to check you of on the individual tasks.

Pylon

Exactly.   Your commander does not need to have ratings in the specialties in which you're training, nor does he or she need to have the SET qualification to sign you off for the Commander's Signoff purposes.  That just means he cannot sign you off for the individual tasks.

You still need the commander's approval to begin training and at the completion of your training.

Guess I'm one of the unlucky ones then. :D

I am confused by how you are saying "it".  Are you talking about eServices as I do not think that is the problem.  My thought is that your commander has a bunch of approvals waiting for him/her that he/she needs to approve in their eServices account.  Can you explain further what you are doing?

When you have finished a section, say pre-quels, just put a date in the commander's approval spot on the SQTR, that will fire him/her a message under ops approvals waiting.  It took us a while to figure it out but it works well.

Are you using Eservices or WMU? The process differs between them.

Iron,

This is a common misunderstanding with the commander's approvals in eservices.  It's purpose is approval - i.e. a "confirmation" that all the prepatory training is complete and properly notated by both you and your trainer.

Your commander is supposed to be witness to the proper notation and records - i.e. SQTR's signed on paper and entered online.  His or her approval either directly awards the qualification, or forwards the approval up to group/wing level (depending what the qual is).

Your best resource is the CAP knowledgebase for these things.  It does an excellent job of going into the details.

Thanks...though from what I understand, more and more squadrons and wings are going totally electronic, thus little paper around to "sign".

If everybody is on top of things, and all the evaluators are good at signing things off electronically - great.  But I'm sure you're familiar with "I lost my SQTR, can you just approve my quals anyway?"

Yeah.  We require the paper for the files.  The eservices sign off takes care of the 101 headache.

In addition, if there were a serious accident, wouldn't you want a good paper copy of your quals handy?
