I got an e-mail over MER-INFO this morning from Col Walling saying:
Quote
It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve with each and every one of you as your Middle East Region Commander. Now the time has come for me to leave that position.

Middle East Region has a proud tradition of accomplishment, and I know your outstanding work will continue.  I have every confidence that you will give Col Charles Glass your full support as he assumes command of the Region.

Farewell.  God bless each of you.  And God bless America.

KAY JOSLIN WALLING, Col, CAP

Col Glass was the MER/CC prior to Col Walling.

Don't expect any awards to be approved above Commander's Commendation if you're not holding a wing or region position, again.

Was it her time to step down or is there something going on behind the scenes?

The email we got in NC just stated that the good general relieved her of command and that Glass was acting MER/CC, oh joy. I just love incoming friendly fire. Does anyone know if they still make kevlar underwear?

Kay Walling was MER/CC since March 06. Just about average for national Board members.

It will be interesting to see what's really going on.  I used to be with Maryland Wing before moving to Oregon and I knew Col. Walling when she was the MDWG/CC.  This may just be a normal change in command.

True it may just be a "normal"change of command but why recycle when there is plenty of talent in the region? Also there has been no application etc for the job as has been done in the past. Just interesting.

Message from BGen Amy Courter:

General Amy Courter relieved Colonel Kay Walling from her duties as Commander of Middle East Region (MER) effective 3 April 2008.  Col Walling had served as MER/CC since 2006.  Colonel Charles Glass has agreed to serve as the Interim MER Commander.  In this time of transition, General Courter asks for your support of Colonels Walling, Glass (MER/CC), Schaffer (MER/CV) and all of the wing commanders and members of the Middle East Region.

Any inquiries should be directed to BGen Amy Courter

Ah, The Days of our CAP Lives.

I know what happened.  She was the one that pushed at the national board meeting to not have any more uniform changes that required more sewing stuff.  Is this a secret move to eliminate anyone opposed to changing the uniforms???  ;) ;D >:D ::)

Only more reason for our members to learn to sew.

Ah, The Days of our CAP Lives.
I know we in CAP tend to have conspiracy theories on our minds but it could be as simple as Col Walling requesting to step down on short notice. Therefore there would be no opportunity to start the vetting process for her replacement.

I'm thinking that this might not be the case.  His former directors of administration and his former chief of staff are no longer there.  They were toads in the road.  The present guy is only mildly slow.  I think MER's morale will improve - it couldn't get any worse.  I was at a wing function back east and had a chance to overhear two wing commanders and a senior staff officer talking about how bad things were and could only get better if the current (read Walling) commander left.

I hope whatever the problem was, this works for them.

Yeah, the word is that there were some unresolved $ issues at MER.  Also, she bullied her wing commanders - that probably came home to roost as well.

Being thought of as being part of the "Pineda Posse" probably didn't do her any favors either.

Well this is the 2nd time in the last month we have seen this (remember NCR)....seems there will be a new "posse" in town and just in time to vote at the next NEC and National Board Meeting....which as I recall the next NB meeting will be an election....but I am sure it is not related

Cecil DP

Actually, there is at least one election at each NB. The CV is a one year term. The CC is 3 years.

One election at each NB, save for all the ones held in Winter.  ;D

The NCR commander was reinstated because Tony Pineda 2Bed him and his wife without legitimate cause, IMOH. Maybe the former MER/CC had a similar problem and this is the correction.

According to my source out there, Col Glass is now expected to be an interim commander.  There will be a complete boarding process for the new MER/CC which will take approx. 90 days.  The staff was told to stand fast - no firings/no hirings until the process is complete.

It sounds like Col Glass was brought on board to hold things in place until everything shakes out.  Whether or not he'll apply to return is anyone's guess.
