I heard that some of the GTs were trying to regulate boonies as the official headgear for GTMs. I agree that it should be so. What do you guys think about it? Why I think so is because it's cool.

P.S. Boonies are awesome. On my first mission one of the cadets had a boonie(sp) and it really helped him, I had my BDU cap and I had to take it off. I got to sweaty in that thing. I wish I had that boonie(sp).

I suggest that you do a search of our forums (fora) for just that subject. I would venture to guess that there are dozens, maybe even hundreds of posts addressing your questions and opinions. You will find no consensus. You may get flamed, hard. You will find supporters and nay-sayers. It is probably one of the five most controversial topics on here, or other similar sites.

Ruben is one of the cadets from the "these are my boy's" thread....and the two guys wearing boonies out in the feild...did get a talking to about that very subject.

While I support wearing the boonies....we have to wait until they are officially approved (if ever) to wear them.

P.S.

Good job out there Ruben and welcom to CAPTALK!

I don't even see why this is a debate - the regs say you can't wear it.  If you think the regs should be changed, forward your argument up through channels.

The NB recently approved sending the idea of boonie hats to the AF again for consideration.  The AF turned CAP down, flat out, last time CAP asked for the boonie hat.  I guess CAP changed the color of the boonie cap and expects a different result.  The NB also specified that it would only be for "field use".

Ahh - good info - thanks.    Any data on what was approved by the NB?  Color, insignia, etc?

The details are in the Executive Summary as well as in the play-by-play thread here on CAPTalk (from those who watched the live feed of the NB meeting).  I believe we asked if we could use blue or blaze orange boonies worn with the woodland AF-style BDUs.  Don't recall anything specific about insignia.

No details on what constitutes "in the field" but I recall something about it being each commander's job to define and enforce that... (because commanders now do such a great job of uniformly enforcing all of our other standards and rules for uniform wear  :P ).

No word yet on the Air Force's response.  Maybe they thought it was an April Fool's Day prank.

:'(  The "cool factor" is most likely the real reason people want it.  Thank you Cadet for reinforcing that idea for me.

Is it me, or did we spend like 2 weeks on this very issue last week?
What's up monkeys?

Do you have a flux capacitor in your 24 hour gear?

See the interim change letter for 39-1 in the uniform section above, dated April 1, 2008 for the latest on the boonie at this time.  That is all..

How not to wear a CAP Boonie:

1) Fishing lures are not CAP approved - unless earned while in military service.
2) Rank must be ultra marine blue not metal - or feather and ribbon.
3) Boonies are not approved with the Golf Shirt and Bath Robe uniform combination.
4) Grey Scarf must have CAP embroidered at the proper place.
5) While not on this example - you may not wear your 101 card in a plastic holder on the brim ala fishing license.
