For those folks doing large cut and paste quotes from another source, here's how to keep them from looking like this:

if a person is on a porch, a covered sidewalk, a bus stop, a covered or open entryway, or a reviewing
stand, the salute will be exchanged with a person on the sidewalk outside of the structure or with
a person approaching or in the same structure. This applies both on and off military installations. The

and making them hard to read.

Paste your text into Notepad set to full screen, and take out the hard returns as needed to make the line breaks come out right as compared to the original.

Then paste into your post and preview it. That will turn up any remaining bad line breaks.

Following those instructions will make the above text turn into:

if a person is on a porch, a covered sidewalk, a bus stop, a covered or open entryway, or a reviewing stand, the salute will be exchanged with a person on the sidewalk outside of the structure or with a person approaching or in the same structure. This applies both on and off military installations. The

Sure it takes a little bit more time, but it makes the post more readable.

YMMV.

How about using the quote tags?

I thought about that, but for the purpose of my post, I thought it would be harder to read, and not provide the desired display of the problem and the solution.

Would a different color have been better?

I don't think its a color issue, just suggesting that anything quoted shoudl be attributed, and using the quote tags makes it stand out.

I think attribution might be required in the TOS.

I just pulled a bit of "problem" text out of a post. There was no attribution because I wanted to emphasize the content, not a specific source. I didn't want to single out or embarrass the poster. If anyone really cares where it came from, I guess they can track it down. If y'all like, I can remove the whole thread, or just lock it. I don't really like having this hijacked.

Dave: I read and reread your original post: haven't a clue as to what you said.  There are some of us who post here who really only hunt and peck on a computer and are not sophistocated computer folks.

If it is really important, could you either PM me or put it in REALLY simple terms?

SarDragon, why don't you make a few sample quote posts in the "Playpen" forum.
