One of CAP's foremost tasks is finding a new mission once the ELT becomes obsolete.

A New York squadron does bison locating. I'm not sure if this is an AF mission.  And on the Anniversary of CAP's founding!

Ithaca air patrol finds missing buffalo

A pair of escaped buffalo gave Ithaca's volunteer Civil Air Patrol a chance to practice its search and rescue skills this week.

A Tompkins County farmer called on the Civil Air Patrol Sunday to help him track down two of his American bison who had gone missing. After days of the farmer searching by ground, it took the Civil Air Patrol's five-person team — three in the air, two on the ground — only 30 minutes Wednesday to locate the wandering buffalo.
