I could only imagine what it means.  I hope to see sometype of "here is the direction CAP is heading" from the leadership after the budget goes through.

Am I right in reading that they're proposing cutting the current budget from 34.9 million to 21.1 million?

Actually I think the '06 budget was 34.9 and '07 was 24.7, so that cut happened. '08 is 23.7, so a drop but not as big as '06 to '07. With a small increase in '09.

Am I correct in thinking the reason for the AF budget cuts was to increase the Army/ USMC budget due to Iraq/Afgahnistan expense?

There is more interesting stuff in Aircraft Procurement, Vol I.  There CAP is under Budget Activity 04 - Other Aircraft.  In this category are: CV-22 Osprey, Civil Air Patrol, target drones, C-37A, Globalhawk and Predator.  For FY08 the CAP budget estimate was $2.2 mil out of $1,049.5 mil for the category.

Today Democrats announced that Congress is not passing the Defense Dept budget in protest of the Iraq war. Democrats say that they will withhold all funding to all DoD until Bush puts forth a timetable to bring our folks back from the sandbox.

USA and USN activities will shut down on Feb 1 if this goes on long.- AE ships dead in the water-
USAF has supposedly sent layoff-warning letters to 100,000+  contractors

It was on CSPAN today.
Several Democratic Presidential Candidates were interviewed. All were so smug I wanted to shoot my TV. McCain looked like he was gonna have a heart attack.

Yes......so with the Dems trying to "hurt" Bush, they really are hurting those civilians the AF and Army just came out yesterday and said will be let go.  Those civilians are men and women who are not contractors, but DOD civilians.  I don't care about contractors, I do care about the men and women who serve the services in a civilian capacity. 

I feel bad for the Americans who will be anxious through the holidays as to whether or not they will be laid off after the new year.

Congress will probably end up doing just like they did under the Republican's recently when they couldn't come up with a budget at all and just do a continuing resolution.
