On the mean, reaction times and cognitive abilities degrade with age.

You can't argue that psyiological fact by citing 1 good oldie and 1 goofball mid-lifer.

True, but the bottom line is that F5s are not being properly done, if we have pilots flying that shouldn't be, whatever their age.  We need to find a way around friendships and good old boy club scenarios. Seems THAT is the issue much more than age. We are not properly evaluating.

Can't disagree with this at all...

I see 95% of pilots requesting FRO's and F5 rides from Members of their Unit that they use over and over.... perhaps worthy of its own topic?

Its a issue without a simple answer.  In many Wings we have a shortage of CFIs and Check Pilots.  Makes it very difficult to try and get a different one each time.
