Shreveport, LA - Rodney W. "Rod" Ammons, Sr., died of natural causes on Tuesday morning, August 7, 2018. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 pm on Friday, August 10, at Osborn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 am on Saturday, August 11, 2018, in the Osborn Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Rachel McConnell-Switzer. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Rod was born December 2, 1942, in the Alexandria, LA area and graduated from Bolten High School. He learned engineering while serving in the U.S. Navy. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol and was a Commander over the Southeast Region. Rod later retired from South Central Bell. He was active in Summer Grove United Methodist Church, serving on various boards, his Methodical thoughts in Sunday School, The Lagniappe Class, gave us something to think about later on. Rod was preceded in death by his only son, Rodney Ammons, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Pam; step-daughter, Jennifer Lofton (Kenneth); step-son, Robert Smith; grandchildren, Quinton Ammons, Emma Ammons, Shelby Merritt and Kyleigh Smith; and three great grandchildren, Hayley Merritt and August Gibbs-Ammons. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Ammons; sister, Dorothy Gibson; and several nieces and nephews. He was very strong in his faith and felt that I Corinthians Chapter 13, The Love Chapter, was the True Message of Jesus and would want to encourage everyone to read this often to your children and grandchildren.

And now he can say "Go Mudbugs"
