Fun video. Before all the OPSEC folks go insane and have steam coming out their ears .. there is NOTHING in this video that hasn't been in TV news reports to the public. I went on this mission a couple years ago, and got reamed here for even mentioning it. Funny then and funny now. NOTHING OPSEC about it.

Enjoy the video someone did ... and try to sign up and go help before it ends. Its a fun job. :)

Doesn't make a difference if it is on You Tube. If YOU haven't been authorized to release this the public then you are wrong.
This is why we have Public Affairs people. They're the ones authorized to release stuff to the public, after it's been cleared.
On a mission like this CAP isn't the one calling the shots, our customer, the Air Force are the ones making that decision.

Not my video. I just saw it and posted the link here for CAPTalk folks to enjoy. :)

Well we went all through that a couple years ago. I'll not repeat the long thread again. It was all ok with everyone that mattered.

Phil, hop off your high horse for a minute.  You're getting hypoxic.

This video is authorized and has been verified as unclassified.  I'm in the RPA program currently as a civilian contractor and this video has been in circulation for a couple years now.

Gents PHall has a validity to his posting hands down.  Now could this video have been put together and released by the powers to be sure.  It still doesn't invalidate his stance or post.

Now we have a poster who claims its good to go and hints at his/her status though last time I checked a contractor didn't have declass rights.

Sure, I get Phall's point and he is correct about these things we do for customers.

But this one was open and out there from day one. It helps to know the history:

When the Syracuse mission was first announced, the AF, the local Mayor and other officials, had news conferences, and public meetings all about it. They wanted the public to be fully aware, so that 911 phone systems would not light up every time one flew. TV news camera crews captured all the same type video you see in this youtube video and much more. Interviews with pilots and AF folks in charge. All totally out in the open for every Tom, Dick and Harry to know everything except detailed specs of the Reaper. But lots of general terms were certainly given.

While working the mission, the officials, Reaper Pilots and folks giving us wx briefings, mission briefings and more ... were fine when we asked about taking photos.

Thats my point. This mission has been approved from day one for publicity and fun photos/videos.

I would NEVER assume that for any other mission.  :)

That is all ... moving on .....

Cool video - very well made, whoever made it.

Phil has a valid basic point on being careful about releasing imagery of or linking to missions involving our DoD or other sensitive customers. We certainly would want to keep that in mind also should we find some "cool" info somewhere on the web which was leaked by known traitors to the United States (i.e. don't get CAP and/or CAPTalk in trouble by reposting cool sounding AE/defense type material from Intercepts or WikiLeaks or sites hosting material divulged by enemies of the U.S. (Bradley Manning, Assange, et al). There is material out there with and without markings which some people may regard as now unclassified just because it is exposed... NOT TRUE. In this case, the general principle/reaction to have a gut check is still good, even if our ANG customer in this case is on record as not really caring to care, and we should all understand both the policy, the risk, and the customer point of view.

Now we have a poster who claims its good to go and hints at his/her status though last time I checked a contractor didn't have declass rights.

I have known contractor support security personnel (not FSOs, not just industrial security specialists, and not just derivative classifiers, but folks with write down and derivative authority). I don't know if Scott is one of those, but if not, then an argument from authority needs to have some more citations to back up the claim "is authorized and has been verified as unclassified".

We'd hate to have CAPTalk go down for a while and get scrubbed like Fence Check did (not that that's the case here).
So, "thank yous" are due to the Mods for accepting the duty to scan posts and have the authority to rule on this (HINT HINT... lets leave it to the Mods, teammates)!
