1st Lt. Gary M. Haslam
Prescott Composite Squadron 206
Arizona Wing

Gary Martin Haslam passed away in his home surrounded by family on January 4, 2018. Born on December 5, 1951, in Denver, Colo., to parents, Daniel Booth Jr. and Joy Peters Haslam, the young Haslam family moved from Colorado to Burlington Vt., where Gary spent his youth, building many fond memories both in Burlington and at the family cabin on Lake Caspian in Greensboro, Vt. Gary sought adventures in his early years and drove across the U.S., settling in Lake Tahoe, Calif. He met his wife, Betsy, in nearby Reno, Nevada, where they were married and began family life together. Early on, Gary showed inclinations for art and illustration and drew cartoons for student publications while attending Kimball Union Academy and the University of Vermont. Gary’s growing interests in computers and electronics evolved into a career as a product manager, where he would go on to invent and produce patents for a number of consumer products. Gary’s business career began in Reno and resulted in family moves to Texas and North Carolina. While there, Gary flew his first solo flight in 2005 and became a member of and pilot for the N.C. Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. After moving to Prescott, Gary joined the Prescott Composite Squadron 206 of the Arizona Wing and served as a CAP 1st Lieutenant, student, instructor, evaluator, technician and coordinator for local and wing services and operations. He particularly enjoyed serving as Emergency Services officer, mission pilot, scanner/observer, and communications leader. Gary is survived by his wife, Betsy; son, Silas; daughters, Claire (Doug) and Lacey (John); brother, Daniel Booth Haslam III; Aunt Patricia Haslam; cousins, in-laws, friends and co-workers.
