Additional Information for:

Maj. Courtney G. Brooks

Dahlonega Composite Squadron
Georgia Wing

By:
CAPT. J. RICHARD CLARKE
COMMANDER GA447
DAHLONEGA SR. SQUADRON

I met him at Cornerstone.  Aviation enthusiast always find each other. Major Brooks started the Dahlonega Squadron CAP, in 2004. Courtney became a charter member. He knew nothing about CAP, boxes of regulations and publications, all paper, with no internet. Courtney became our Professional Development Officer. He dug out what was needed to learn about the CAP and the duties involved. Courtney learned and then taught the rest of us the regulations, rules, procedures and aviation positions of Scanner, Observer, MP and mission Base positions. OurCAP aircraft used the GX 55 GPS. Designed by SADISTIC ENGINEERS, Courtney learned and taught the entire squadron how to use it. He developed the MT Flying course used by the GAWG. He combined information from CAP, FAA & AOPA and put it into a lesson plan that is still used by the GAWG. He received the Wing Commanders COMMEDATION AWARD for this. Maj Brooks joined the CAP as a non-pilot. In the shortest time possible, he got his FAA pilots license, and with the minimum hours required became a CAP MP. As an MP, Courtney flew Actual Emergency Missions. He participated in almost all practice emergency missions, and flew as an MP and Observer in CD missions, Photo Missions, Low Level Military route missions, and was a  pilot for Cadet orientation flying missions. In the Dahlonega Squadron, Courtney served as Professional Development Officer, Finance Officer, Emergency Services Officer, Aerospace Education Officer’ and Safety Officer. All who served with Courtney in the GAWG and especially The Dahlonega Squadron will always remember and admire Maj. Courtney Brooks.
