Before people get mad, it's satire. It's actually caused a few airmen to message me with interest in CAP and how to join, surprisingly.

This is so funny!

But you just added to the folklore of "Enlisted saluting CAP officers..."

Since sometimes our members just scan messages and skip over some things...

But also I say, "Let them pay for not being through!"

Thanks for the morning laugh...

You do realize that's a satire site, right?

and not even geared toward CAP.

Quoteeating alone between the junior enlisted and NCO tables as neither group wanted to be affiliated with the E-4 Jr. NCO.

That's good stuff right there.

Thank you all for your interest! I just launched the website two days ago and it's very exciting seeing the reviews. I only have 3 articles so far but I'm hoping to make about 2 a week and include all the branches and auxiliaries. CAP will get some more love in the future, don't worry--it has a special place next to my heart especially with all the cadets.

Don't worry, I try and make the satire's source obvious with both the website headliner and the FB groups cover photo / official description to help people figure it out when reviewing the source. Also if someone spreads it seriously from only reading the header then it leaves themselves open to anyone who reads it calling them out for it for maximum group embarrassment!

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns about the website / articles, please let me know! This is brand new to me.

You are precisely who I am talking about that "just scan messages."

Of course I understood it was satire.

My message was that "not many get when something is sarcasm and end up reporting a joke, satire, sarcasm as factual."

So I just completed the "Far East Encampment", an encampment put together for members of the Overseas Squadrons located at Osan AB in Korea, as well as Yokota AB, Kadena AB, and Misawa AB, all located in Japan. We had members from Osan, Kadena, and our hosts at Yokota (Tokyo) present.

There was endless saluting of CAP officers by enlisted persons, even Active Duty Senior NCOs. Nobody had any clue who we were, and the presence of the cadets did not help the situation. Our figuring was they thought we were foreign forces (happens a lot at Yokota) so they'd just salute and go about their day. Even better, the Japanese Self Defense Force enlisted folks recognize US officer rank, so we were getting confused  salutes from our allies. It happens guys.

You realize that while not required, it is still entirely appropriate for CAP officers to be saluted?

It's not like saluting an NCO, which is a no-no. The military simply is allowed to choose, individually, whether to salute CAP officers.

Wait, did you realize this was a satire article? That might be it.

TheTravelingAirman

I know it's satire, but my point is it happens. I had a pretty hard time keeping my bearing with the looks of absolute confusion. I'm not saying they were wrong, at all. It's just that we're going to get saluted regardless, because there is a very small number of AD folks who know who we are, and that our officers aren't commissioned.

People are so officer-shy on a military installation, that from a road guard position I witnessed 2 SrA do a 180 and walk away from us to avoid saluting our Captain who was walking alongside the cadet flight marching to chow. Regardless of the article being satire, my point exists that people do it. Was I upset? No. Were they? No. They learned who we were and walked away slightly more educated, and I'd go so far as to say the Yokota folks have a few potential recruits because of that exposure, confusion or not. Don't be so quick to judge, please. I'm just trying to share what I found to be a humorous experience with a topic on the board.

DakRadz

No judgement intended. I wasn't sure if that was meant as a humorous anecdote or not. Internet expressions and all.

The SrA part is great though. Having not been on many bases until after I was a cadet officer, I never thought of that being a "thing."

CAP_truth

Back in the day CAP officers were receiving salutes all the time while on military bases. Remember they are saluting the grade.

PH, you are very, very, very slow these days.

I answered on 22 June. You posted on 10 July.

It took you all this time to think such a little reply? Other times your reply has not been only almost instantaneous but it cut sharply!

What was the matter? A mission got you tired? So tired your mind is not as sharp now?

At the last joint exercise I participated in, about a month an a half ago, Army Soldiers were rendering salutes to CAP officers in flight suits and BDUs. Did they do this by mistake? Who knows and who cares? Nothing prohibits a member of the Armed Forces from rendering salutes to CAP officers or a CAP officer from returning it. They're not required to salute us. We're not allowed to demand a salute from them. Anything else is just common sense and courtesy.

The "right" thing to do is to properly return any salute you get. Anything else is just bad taste.

Swoop...here's come a Wingman :)   PH was a bit slow...because he was at Camp SLO working Encampment from 6/22-7/1.    It does take a bit of time to go through the various posts here are CAPTalk.   He was there 24/7, I was part-time evenings week-day and full-time on the week-end.   Cell coverage is spotty at times on Camp SLO.   Now that he is back...keep on your toes :)
