First i am speaking as a flight commander and would like suggestions for possible courses of action. My flight sergeant does not respect the cadets i have been working with him but he does not seem to listen and/or retain information and i have had problems with near hazing. I have been working with and teaching the cadets personally and implementing a number of programs to boost moral and encourage leadership from all levels but the flight sergeant does not want to lead. here is the problem i have a job that will take me away from cap for the summer (roughly 12 weeks) and he is next in line to become flight commander. I am afraid of what i may come back to i dont want to see less cadets in the unit nor poor moral and i am beginning to wish i had not taken the job (though i do love the job). i have talked to my cadet commander and he said he would talk to the sergeant, but i dont know if it will help or not. what can i do to improve the situation and retain cadets. thanks in advance for any advice

Two things you need to do.

1) You need to communicate your concerns to your C/CC and/or DCC.  You need to tell them your specific concerns, what your flight sgt is doing wrong and what corrective actions you have taken.   It is their job to assign duty positions and it is their job to make sure the right person takes over your flight.

2) You need to communicate with your Flt Sgt exactly....I SAY AGAIN.....exactly what he is doing wrong, you need to explain to him why this is wrong.  You need to explain to him what he needs to do to correct it and you need to give him a reasonable time frame to show that he can correct his behavior.

Beyond that....I cannot offer specific advice because I do not know all the details of your situation.

Good Luck.

+1 ^Listen well.

Also realize that the personal responsibility and concern you are exhibiting is exactly what we expect of cadets,
however when you leave, it is out of your hands.

^I understand i guess the line between cap and my personal life is just blurred i have seen many great cadets come and go, and currently have many great cadets in my flight, who i feel could easily have my job in a year and do a great job at it i guess i just dont want to see them go and be back at square one when i return also thanks lordmonar i will continue trying and hope for the best i guess

It's that way for many of us, and concern for subordinates goes with the territory.

If you notify your chain UP, and make expectations clear DOWN, you've done about all you can do.

There is only so much you can do.  My honoured colleagues have provided very good advice to you.

If there is hazing going on, that is a HUGE no-no in any part of CAP - PERIOD.

its borderline as far as hazing most noticeable was getting up and yelling in a cadets ear (yes like on full metal jacket) for smiling at attention. said cadet latter asked me to talk to him about it i did and he said the CC told him to, latter talked to him and it seemed it was a miscommunication (he meant at the flight not individuals) outside that its mostly small things thanks everyone for all the advice i will do it ASAP

Hazing is a serious offense. Anything approaching that should be stopped immediately. Follow lordmonar's advice and talk to your cadet commander AND deputy commander for cadets or unit commander. At this point, this is NOT something you should be dealing with by yourself.
