IACE ribbon, multiple awards

After digging through 39-1 several times, I have found no specific guidance on whether or not a clasp is allowed on the IACE ribbon for multiple awards (Canada and the UK as a cadet...yes, as a cadet). If so, which clasp?

So I now turn to the CAPtalk community for guidance.

39-1 is not your source, 39-3 is, however there is no comment on it.

As the standard for multiple awards is the bronze triangle, presumably that would be the one, however best to ask NHQ.

I stand corrected. Thank you.

I guess NHQ is my next stop...

Check with with NHQ before putting a bronze triangle clasp. While this signify additional awards on certain ribbons, such as Encampment, that's not the case for all. Additional awards of the NCSA Ribbon, for example, are represented with a bronze star.

I once hung out with a guy who went on IACE. Can I get a ribbon?

CAPR 39-3 states:  Subsequent awards of the same decoration or ribbon are denoted by the CAP bronze triangular clasp, worn on the ribbon of the original award. A CAP silver triangular clasp is equivalent to, and is worn in the place of, five bronze claps. Silver clasps are placed to the wearer's right side of a bronze clasp. A maximum of four devices may be worn on any ribbon, unless otherwise stated in this regulation.  To me this means that the IACE ribbon gets a bronze triangular clasp.  Other ribbons that do not, would include the NCC Ribbon, the NCGC Ribbon, the Cadet Special Activity Ribbon, and the Cadet Advisory Council Ribbon.  Each of these has specific instruction for attachments contained in the 39-3.  I'm sure there may be others, but 2nd, 3rd, or 4th IACE participation earnes bronze clasps.

That would make sense. What doesn't make sense is that subsequent awards of the NCSA Ribbon are represented with stars, not triangular clasps. The cadet competition ribbons make sense because the star represents the level of the winner. The same goes for the CAC Ribbon. Now, these can't be earned more than once, unless it's at the next level. Do we know for sure that the IACE Ribbon can be earned more than once? One would think, but it doesn't hurt to seek guidance.

I've got some orders somewhere for my third and fourth awards, so, yeah, it happens.

My theory is "Go do the job they have asked you to do; if they give you a ribbon, that's just a bonus."

WIWAC, one of the cadets in my squadron went to Egypt. The experience was so terrible(they were quartered at one point in a newly constructed prison that had not opened for business yet) that all the cadets were allowed to go to a country of their choice the next year. Our cadet went to Japan. I also heard that some early trips to the former Warsaw Pact countries in the early to mid 90's got a similar deal.

Typical, Over privileged Americans thinking they were treated bad. Probably got the better accommodations that the home troops do.

At that time nobody from Southern Illinois thought they were privileged.  >:( Got tired of getting asked at encampments and such if I had indoor plumbing by kids from Chicago. Rant all you want but prison is prison.
