Newly appointed National Chief of Chaplains

In a simple ceremony that took place this morning at the National Command Council meeting in Washington, DC, the National Commander, Maj Gen Charles Carr appointed Ch, Col  James "Jay" Hughes at the National Chief of the Chaplain Corps.  He succeeds Ch, Col J. Delano Ellis II, who in the same ceremony received the permanent grade of Colonel and the Distinguished Service Medal for his leadership and service.

Chaplain, Col Jay Hughes has served as the GAWG Chaplain and the Secretary of the Chaplain Corps Executive Council.  He took off the cross to serve as the GAWG CC.  Following his tenure, he returned to the Chaplain Corps serving as a Special Advisor to the Chief of the  Chaplain Corps and more recently as one of the Deputy Chiefs. 

Chaplain Hughes has held qualifications as a mission observer, Counterdrug observer and cadet orientation pilot.  He also served as an escort for the International Air Cadet Exchange and as a contributor to "Flight Time: Values for Living", the character development material for cadets.

Jay Hughes and I went to high school together at Spencer H.S. in Columbus, Ga.  I rejoined CAP during his tenure as GAWG CC.
