Sad news

Just received word that Steven Gullberg II, Spaatz #1465, died today in a plane crash in Puerto Rico. Steven was the son of Steve Gullberg, Spaatz #479, together they were the first father and son pair of Spaatz Award recipients.  Steven was a pilot for IBA Airways in Fort Lauderdale, he was flying a company Swearingen Metroliner when he died.   R.I.P.

That's sad news.  I do find it funny however, that the edmonton journal article specifies that the bodies of two U.S. Citizens were recovered.  I don't know why that would be unusual considering Puerto Rico is a U.S. Territory.

Edmonton is a LONG way from PR...and having lived there this time of year, the cold messes with your head (-40 wind chill at the moment...at that it doesn't matter if it's F or C)

And if you want me to start pointing out stupidity that US press has about stuff in Canada, this is going to get to be a LONG list.

It wasn't that it came from Edmonton, because the ABCnews link is almot verbatim including mentioning that they were both U.S. citizens.  It's just an unusual tidbit in the story.  If a plane crashed in British Colombia...wouldn't it just be strange to mention that everyone on the plane was Canadian?  It just seems an extraneous detail.  Like saying the Plane was white with blue stripes.

Would the average Canadian (remember most news is written at a 6th grade level) necessarily know that
Puerto Ricans are US citizens?

I have no idea how that mess of provinces and territories come together, nor more then a passing interest in figuring it out.
