If a Group does not get their SUI done in a timely manner, and that Group is suspended...how would this affect the subordinate Squadrons? Would they in essence not be able to participate in an activity because their Group was suspended?

Just curious...

The Group's SUI has no effect on the subordinate units.  It is an inspection of the Group itself.

As a side note, a Group's SUI is not a "cumulative inspection of all the Group's units and operations", it is specifically an inspection of the
Group's member and their staff role in regards to the Group charter.

Considering most Group's have a handful of staff, no cadets, and are not an operational component, a Group SUI should not take more then an
hour or two and can be done remotely.

So then if the group was sponsoring a Sarex / FTX and it was scheduled for after the date they were suspended, they could not take part in it as "Group" people, but the Sarex / FTX could go on as planned, right?

JeffDG

That would be subject to whatever conditions the Wing commander imposed when ordering the stand-down.

If the Group is suspended, then members assigned to that charter are not supposed to participate in any activities other then preparation for,
or the actual inspection - that's the letter.  So from that perspective, anyone assigned at that level could not participate, but others could
step in and take over, and anyone not assigned to that charter is not affected.

In more common practice, since SAREx's are a wing function by design (missions are only approved by the wing, IC's are assigned by the wing, money
comes from the wing, etc.), it's doubtful that a Wing CC would cancel a large activity because of a pending SUI issue...

..however...

...it's not unheard of for wings with serious overall inspection program problems to "make a statement" by cancelling major activities, etc.
because of an SUI being ignored, that, or if there is pressure from higher HQ, the decision might be out of the wing's hands.

So it's possible, but not likely a SAREx would be cancelled just because it was going to be hosted in a Group's AOR or headquarters.
Now, if the PIC, IC, and other key staff are assigned to group, well that might be a different story.

The person who will make that decision is the Wing CC.

Any Group SAREX would have a project officer appointed, who may or may not be part of the Group HQ staff, organizing and planning this event. I don't see how a suspension of Group HQ would affect that, especially if the funding is approved beforehand. Once the SAREX starts, the Incident Commander is in charge and he/she can operate without the group as well. At that point, Wing HQ is who reviews the SAREX status, expenses and paperwork.

My advice is to seek guidance from the FLWG/CC on this matter, but I don't think one thing should affect the other.

Thanks for the responses everyone...that pretty much answers my questions...
