As an aviator there are only two really bad things that can happen to you and someday one of them will.

1.  You will walk out to your aircraft knowing this is going to be you last flight.

2.  You will walk out to your aircraft not knowing this is going to be your last flight.

I first read that on a blog by the late Capt Carroll "Lex" LeFon, USN (Ret) after he unfortunately fell into the latter category. Although he has been gone for over a year, his blog is still available and well worth perusing http://www.neptunuslex.com/

I met Lex, and he was quite a guy. His blog is a lesson on living, and a lesson on writing.
