State Defense Force ribbons on C.A.P. uniform?

GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS! While federal ribbons from the U.S. Armed Forces can be worn on the Civil Air Patrol uniform, does the C.A.P. allow both state ribbons from the Army National Guard or from the State Defense Forces to also be worn while in the C.A.P. uniform? That is the question! I served in the regular U.S.Army and later in the South Carolina Army National Guard, when on active federal duty we wore only the ribbons issued by the federal government, not the state government. Since the C.A.P. is an Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, do their rules apply like the U.S. Armed Forces? Thank you one and all! Respectfully yours, Sarge (Herbert Booker of Palm Coast, Florida)  ;D

SDF ribbons are not authorized for wear on CAP uniforms.

The only military ribbons allowed are those also allowed on the USAF uniform. 39-1 directs members to contact NHQ for decs and badges which are not clearly spelled out by reg.

Per the 39-1 you can only wear your Federal Ribbons on your CAP uniform.
You're not the first person to ask this question... ::)

Greetings & Salutations! Half way suspected only federal ribbons could be worn. Would imagine that Unit Citation ribbons in the larger Army frame would probably have to have the smaller Air Force frame and worn all over the left pocket rather than above the right pocket, yes? Thanks for the regulation regarding what ribbons could be worn; would imagine one would have to submit their DD-214 to show authorized federal ribbons? Thank you all for your valued replies!  Sarge (Herbert Booker)  :)

All ribbons are worn over the left pocket as per the precedence in 39-1.

The substantiation required to wear military ribbons depends on your
Unit CC.

That is correct. I believe there are places where you can find those large Army ribbons in a smaller size. I've seen former Army soldiers in the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard wearing them on their service uniforms.

^The ribbons are the same size... it is the frame that is larger.  Put the smaller frame on 'em and you are good to go.

I have a JMUC with the smaller metal frame.  It fits on my ribbon rack with no issues.

What you have to watch however is when you have multiple frames in your rack. When you do this, it causes your rack to bow somewhat. Mine curves just enough to be a nuisance. Is there any trick to this other than triming the sides and gluing the frame to the front of the ribbon?

Flying Pig

It bows even with a plastic ribbon holder?   All I ever wore was plastic ribbon holders.

I have never been a fan of the plastic, but I will try it to see if that helps. The lesser of two evils I guess.

If I am not doing Ultrathin all I wear is a plastic rack.

You sure about that? I've seen former AF guys go Army and have to obtain larger AF Outstanding Unit Award ribbons in order to match the other ribbons worn on the right side.

I wasn't aware that they came in two differant sizes. ??? Appearantly, Vanguard is not aware either since they only list one catalog number for the ribbon.
And since they're the one's who supply AAFES...

The actual ribbons are the same size as previously mentioned. The size of the frame is the only thing different.

They're doing the wrong thing, then. 670-1 says that AF unit awards are worn on the right without frames. The AFOUA does not have a frame.
