Ink. Probably last of the mohicans.. Make two cards while you're doing it. Incase they don't like something about one of them, they have an option. Otherwise you've got to send it back in again.

my squadron cc thought ahead and gave me two just in case  ;D

Most of the places around here scan their prints by the Sheriff or (if AD) go to base security, and get them printed on the cards.

There are also some units which have purchased fingerprint kits and do them in-house.

CGAUX took scan prints and they look exactly like ink prints. Dunno why CAP must have ink. I have to go get my prints done again for NCIC recert next month. Just gonna go to the jail like last time, only $5 and no ink no mess!

Edit: All CAPR 39-2 says is fingerprints, doesn't specify the medium

Quote3-3. Confidential Screening. All individuals applying for active senior membership must be screened and registered by National Headquarters. The screening process requires that the individual complete a FBI fingerprint card used by National Headquarters to request a FBI criminal records check to determine membership eligibility. Final decision as to each individual's eligibility rests with the National Commander and the Chief Operating Officer. This decision is final and is not subject to appeal or to the "complaints" procedure under CAPR 123-2, Complaints.

And the print card is a standard FBI Applicant fingerprint card, I've used digital prints plenty of times elsewhere. Anyone have a source to this "ink only" requirement?

Not really sure if this helps to answer the question but when I was printed last year for membership, the PA State Police used a digital reader to scan my prints and then printed them on the card. Everything went through National first shot and no other problems that I know of?

They don't care if it's ink or scanned/printed.  More importantly, they are looking for clear prints that are on the "Volunteer" print card and has CAP's information on it.

Our local PD charges $20 to take your prints.  So I went out and picked up a print kit and I take the applicant's prints for nothing and that's with 2 sets.  Never had a set come back to me.  I guess after 29 years with the county I at least remember how to do that.   :D

I had mine scanned and printed, but they came out fairly faint on my two cards.... So we rescanned on another machine and printed two more on blank FBI cards. Sent them all in to NHQ. No issue.

They will still accept FBI overprinted cards? I had two kicked back a few years ago because they didn't have the correct CAP overprint.

Just for my information, can any one of you post info on scanners that scan prints?

How is the set-up for printing the fingerprints? Do those scanners print directly to the FBI cards or would we need to send the scans to a computer, run software, so we can use those cards?

And if you know, the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ question as well... How costly those scanners run.  ???

The Federal Police Did Mine for Free. They had to pull the ink and holder out of the closet, and only one guy knew how to do it, lol. I hope we only have to do them once, it is  a PITA.

You're good until you become Wing Commander...then you need a rescreening.

You mean the stamp that says VOLUNTEER and has the CAP ORI and address on it? It's still a standard FBI card regardless that every LE and other agency nationwide uses for background checks for applicant situations such as employement, concealed weapons, etc. You can hand-write that information the same as you can have it stamped. Between CAP, CGAUX, my CWP, and my LE career I've probably done at least 10 sets of prints in 5 years and I've used a combination of writing and stamping and never had anything rejected.

There are totally blank cards, and then there are overprinted cards like we get from NHQ, with the agency name and code. The ones that got rejected had a non-CAP overprint that had been crossed out, and the correct info added by hand. Just telling you what happened to me.

Probably has to do with the fact that Wing CCs are corporate officers. That plus the fact that they're wanting to make sure that there's been no changes in the incoming CC's background that, while not meriting a 2B, would reflect badly on CAP were it to be made public by the media after an incident. You'd be surprised what a set of fingerprint cards and an NCIC inquiry turns up. CAP can't do it themselves but they're requesting a copy of it with the members permission, through the FBI, which is why the cards are needed.

P.S., it's actually Wing and Region CCs that have to resubmit per CAPR 35-9.
