I am the cadet deputy commander of Pony Express Composite Squadron in Missouri.
I'm trying to create a Saturday activity for my squadron and the others in our Group. The proposed activity is called Element Leader's Training Course. The goal of the course is to train junior NCOs on how to lead an element, while developing skill that will help them in future positions such as flight sergeant or first sergeant. Possible class during the course would include leading drill, mentoring, supervision and discipline, chain of command, and professionalism. I've have never spear headed an activity like this and I am looking for some guidance. If any one has lead an NCO Academy or an RCLS, please shoot me ideas. I don't know how to go about planning an activity such as this one so any advice from any one would be extremely helpful.

I'd recommend looking into TXWG's CTEP (Cadet Training and Education Program), specifically their Junior NCO Course.  It's a great  program that should work perfectly for what you're doing.  They have some course docs posted on their site, although it is a little dated.  Still, the material you'll be covering isn't stuff that changes year-to-year.  The hardest thing you'll have to do is update a few slides to mesh with current policy.

Mark Davalos from the Maj Kevin A Adams Memorial Composite Squadron in Ann Arbor Michigan literally just ran an "Element Leaders Academy" yesterday for his unit. PM me and I'll get you some contact info for him. If I don't miss my guess, Mark wouldn't mind sharing. :)

Sorry for the late response. I appreciate your guys's input. I plan to do not have the academy until the spring. If you have any ideas for the curriculum, I'd love to hear them. 68w10, I will look into that program, thanks for the tip.

Might take a look at this. The RCLS curriculum is waaay to advanced for what you want.

Not sure if Cadets can take it or not, but check LMS on eServices for Basic Instructor Course. It's a theory course that covers concepts such as identifying your course objectives, what kind of objectives they are, how to give a lecture, how to use visual aids, etc. Highly recommended.

On that note, Chapter 13 of AFMAN 36-2236, Guidebook for Air Force Instructors, has some excellent info on lecture method techniques.

36-2236 has some good stuff. Teaching and training methods are also covered in Learn to Lead chapter 5, which is probably a more cadet-friendly way of covering those topics.

Guess I need to check that out. Thanks.
