Many CAP members are, or were at one time, members of the fire service, worked in EMS, or both. How about you?

I'm a current CAP member and also a current firefighter or EMS provider.

I became a cop because the local firefighters needed a hero!

True!!!  I was going to be a fireman but I had trouble sleeping more than 12 hours a day!

I wanted to be a cop, but I scored too high on the civil service exam, so they offered me a Firefighter position instead.

Been a career Firefighter/EMT for 5 years now. I was Deputy Chief of a neighboring department but when I moved out of that town I resigned. I've been in CAP almost 4 years, though I tried joining as a cadet about 10 years ago I couldn't get any response from the nearest squadron so eventually gave up.

Even more bizzare!!!! years ago one of the guys in my Vol. Fire Department applied to the city fire dept; passed the civil service test and the fire dept physical agility test (very well supposedly) in the physical he was told his eye sight was too poor for the fire department.... however they were more than happy to hire him to the police department.

Started off in Fire Dept, then decided I actually wanted to do something worthwhile with my life and spent over 20 years as a cop - the entire time as patrol officer then patrol supervisor.  Never looked back.

Just got my app approved for being a volunteer firefighter. Now, on to training and hopefully EMT school!
Still a major after all these years.
