Hi ...

I am watching Discovery Channel the program "Devil's Ride"  a program about motorcycle clubs in California.  I cannot miss the similarities to CAP.... take away the uncut breads and the langauge, aren't we just the same thing as a motorcycle club?  Where being "2bed" is not unlike being depatched?

I just cannot miss the similarities here...

Any fraternal group is going to have similarities, especially one that is focused on things like airplanes or bikes.

Er, we are national? We have ES, CP, CD, AE, SM stuff, tons of planes, participated in WWII, do wreaths across 'merica, and are congressionally chartered.

Can you explain what these devils do that is similar?

Politics. We do politics the same. Have you been in CAP a while? We  have the politics we are the same. Just sayin', having just watched the show.

And, uniforms. Imagine if someone who is not CAP tries to start using the CAP logos -how quick would National get lawyers to issue an cease and desist order? Imagine if someone who had been 2bed showed up at a SAREX wearing his old uniform?

We is a motorcycle club, we just have airplanes instead.

Does this motorcycle club have mandatory safety meetings on irrelevant topics?  Do they have a huge pile of regulations that tell them what color their vest and socks have to be?  Do they just sit around and talk about riding motorcycles instead of actually doing anything?

Haven't seen the show, but it would be hard to imagine that it is at all like CAP.

The CyBorg is destroyed

This is an interesting POV for me...but not for the obvious reasons.

I once served in a squadron based at an Armed Forces Reserve facility that was just a couple of blocks from a Hells Angels clubhouse. 8)

About the only real similarities I would see are:

They have "colours;" so do we (uniforms).
You can get kicked out near-unilaterally (vote of the club); so can we (2B; the worst thing about CAP).
They have flashy machines (Harley-Davidsons); so do we (Cessnas).

Still kind of a humorous observation.

EDIT: I thought this was talking about people. My apologies.

On occasion, and seniors on a regular basis.

As much as a the military is a motorcycle club then I guess.

I'd have no issue whatsoever with the orange gear...

This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time, but I don't get out on GT's much anymore and I usually have to haul
a bunch of base gear with me these days.

Nothing in the regs prohibiting it, assuming you're on-road and legally licensed.  Its just a POV.

Like eclipse said.....any fraternal organisation will have similarities.

The milititary is a fraternal organisation in a lot of ways.  We have our dress codes, our in jokes, secret handshakes, interal language, internal traditions, internal pecking orders.

CAP is also a fraternal organisations...a) because we model ourselves after the USAF and adopt a lot of their traditions...b) one of the major reason people join is to be with like minded people who care abour airplanes, emergency services, and cadets.

Any analogy eventually breaks down at some point......so yes....we are similar to a bike club......just as we are similar the a college fraternity, the Elks Club, the Masons, the Army Rangers, the USAF......but we are also very different.

It is the differences that are more important in this case.  What we do, why we do it, and how we do it.....as compared to any other organisation.......is what makes us different.

Oooh... Something else to try with the M license I'll hopefully get in a couple of weeks ;D.

I'm with the others. All fraternal organizations will have their similarities. What I don't see is the violence often associated with this club (we're not green-lighting our CG AUX "rivals" :P), ergo we're not the same thing.
