What are the requirements for a cadet to be a Saftey Officer in thier squadron?

Go into CAP E-services and check out the requirements for a Safety Officer CAPP 217 and CAPR 62-1 and 62-2.

I think that's probably enough harping on a new member for a spelling error. It's irritating that we have more posts dedicated to that than to actually answering the question in this thread.

To the original poster, first thing is to get assigned to the position by your commander. Sometimes it's as simple as asking, and other times, you may need to fill out a formal application. Does your squadron already have a cadet safety officer? Have they asked for one?

Second, as MSG Mac said, look up CAPP 217, CAPR 62-1 and CAPR 62-2, and CAPR 20-1. You can also look at CAPP 52-21, the Cadet Staff Handbook, which has some info about the cadet safety officer as well.

You will not need to know EVERYTHING in those publications, since most of it is for senior members, but since the cadet safety officer is helping the regular (adult) safety officer, it will help to know what he/she is doing. My guess is that you will mainly be responsible for delivering safety briefings and possibly serving as an adviser to the cadet commander during activity planning when it comes to safety issues.

To be perfectly honest, it can be kind of hard to find cadets who are excited about being a cadet safety officer, so if you have good ideas and a passion to make them happen, then bravo to you, and you should absolutely push to get that position. Many safety officers tend to do the bare minimum required for them, so if you show enthusiasm for the job, well... I would hire you, at least.  :)
