NESA Applications

I can't seem to find a proper answer, so I'm going for most popular opinion at this point.

To apply for NESA, do cadets need a CAPF 31 and Seniors a CAPF 17 in order to attend?

The NESA site states that their application sends a message to Wing CCs to approve or deny. Yet, as a member of my Wing's CP staff, we are preparing a memo to make sure all cadets fill out their 31s. So can anyone clarify this? I've registered for NESA and am waiting for Wing CC approval. I don't know if I need a 17 or not since my squadron and group CCs have already approved.

You do not need a 17 unless your wing has a policy letter requiring it. Same with cadets - they do not need a 31 unless your wing decides otherwise.

Awesome. I will look into a possible policy letter. I guess the Wing CC hasn't had a chance to approve yet. My application was approved at lower levels last week.

Most Wings do not require any supplemental applications or approvals for NESA.  From my experience, I do not believe that Ohio does either.

Based on anecdotal evidence, it seems as if units and Wings are moving away from review boards and supplemental applications for NCSAS and other National activities since the inception of the E-Services based NCSA application procedure.

Then how do you decide? C/2nd. Lt. Snuffy may have a great resume, but be a total #%*(. C/2nd. Lt. bob might be the better choice, even though he has done less stuff. Maybe Cadet bob's squadron doesn't do much?

Since each wing isn't limited to a number of slots like with other NCSAs, the approval is basically a check to make sure there's not a reason they shouldn't go (in my eyes, anyways)

^ What Spaceman said. If C/ Snuffy and C? Bob want to go, they both can, as long as their chain of command approves. NESA isn't an NCSA with a few slots, it's a big SAREX, with lots of room for folks to come and train.
