Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this, and I would post in Cadetstuff, but that site seems to be almost dead.

If I were to transfer to a school with JROTC, is there any way at all, that I could go in with my CAP grade?

Any input is appreciated.

Thank you,

doubt it, it'd be up to the detachment though.

As far as I know.....each school has different rules on how to award grade in AFJROTC.....but don't let that stop you from joining.

My friend who joined Army JROTC (which is what I'd be doing) was allowed to keep his CAP grade, so I was just wondering about this.

But definitely, I'd join regardless, as it looks like some GREAT training, in addition to CAP.

Honestly, I think the school with JROTC and local community college dual enrollment can benefit me ALOT more than the "IB program"...

As so many people were so quick to point out to me, CAP is not ROTC, nor is it JROTC.  You CAP rank would almost certainly not transfer.

Nor should it automatically apply.  Those are different organizations with different leadership and different cultures.  Injecting a CAP leader into their leadership structure would disrupt their culture.  Whether it does or not is a decision of the other organizatiaon.

You would have to discuss it with it the senior instructor.  They and the Army determine their curriculum.

As far as I know, my own unit doesn't do it without very special permission. It is also AFJROTC so there are differences between what the AF and what the Army will allow, and your unit. I myself would not mind doing that if possible (I start in August) and it would be kind of nice to start as a C/Technical Sergeant. (:

For AFJROTC, you more than likely will not get advanced grade but you will have a nearly identical uniform outside of the patches and accouterments.  You will be one up on drill and ceremonies and customs and courtesies. Have you attended encampment?  If not and you attend the summer school course (AFJROTC) you can submit that for encampment credit.

For all JROTC programs depending on the number of years completed you are eligible to promote at the rate of one achievement per month up to a certain milestone achievements.  You may also wear up to three ribbons on your uniform.

If you in AFJROTC and you use the same uniform for both CAP and JROTC then you may sew the AFJROTC patch on you uniform and the wing patch if applicable as well.

Any JROTC program you will to a degree have a one up on your fellow cadets as you have already been prepping uniforms, doing drill and ceremonies now bear in mind every service does D&C a little bit differently.

Got anything to back that up? The only provision for JROTC stuff on our uniform is up to three JROTC ribbons below CAP ribbons.

CAPR52-16 10-1 dated 1 Feb 11, incorporating changes 1-2 June 2011

c. Uniforms & Awards. CAP cadets may wear the following awards earned through their JROTC participation:

(1) CAP cadets are limited to wearing any three JROTC ribbons on the CAP uniform (placements of JROTC ribbons are found in CAPM 39-l, CAP Uniform Manual). No other JROTC specialty badges or devices are authorized unless found in CAPM 39-1. JROTC instructors (NSI) certify their cadets for wearing JROTC ribbons.

(2) Cadets enrolled in CAP and AFJROTC who use the same uniform for both programs may wear the CAP wing patch on the right shoulder and the AFJROTC patch on the left shoulder (for those uniforms that require a wing patch). See CAPM 39-1 for details. Other JROTC patches are not authorized.

You're right.

The problem is that should be in 39-1. You know, the uniform manual? ::)

Yes I know the uniform manual, which as many have said should be revamped and updated.  Reading through the ICLs and various regs etc for my specialty track there is alot in other regs that should be in 39-1.

On another note I was a dual enrolled cadet many moons ago and then there was no credit for encampment and we could wear all JROTC ribbons on a CAP uniform but only four on the JROTC uniform.  ON my CAP uniforms I did wear both the AFJROTC patch and the Wg patch on my uniforms.  My senior year for our Mil Ball I was allowed to wear my CAP service dress for it as a JROTC cadet.  Back then though there was a lot more leeway with the programs.

"If applicable" is the key phrase - since it is no longer applicable in CAP, it is not worn.

Thank you for the response, sir. I do realize I will most likely not get to get promoted to my rank in CAP, but as you said I will -hopefully- be up to speed in drill and ceremonies, and that will help me start the year off right. I have heard of the 1-month rule if you participate in JROTC, but I believe it starts either halfway through, or the end of your sophomore year, so I have another two or so years until that privilege. I did not know about the ribbons, so thank you for that. It will be nice to wear a ribbon or two from CAP after I have a few from JROTC. I am also in the middle of applying for encampment right now, so the summer school shouldn't be needed for credit for my Mitchell, but that is good to know as well. I'm curious- did you are do you currently participate in JROTC? It would be nice to get someone's opinion on it that is also in CAP as well.

abdsp51

My time was many many years ago.  I started in AFJROTC and then joined CAP the same year and worked up.  Once I hit my two year mark in AFJROTC I simply had my ASI do a quick memo to reflect my two years completion in the program and that went into my records.  The credit that is mentioned begins upon completion of two years in a JROTC program.  The programs in some aspect where very similar but unique in many their different ways.  I benefited from both programs heavily and had a lot of fun in both of them.

Cap'n

That is good to hear. From CAP members that don't participate in JROTC I tend to hear negative stuff about the latter, and vice-versa with my JROTC friends. I have yet to meet a person that has experience with both until now.

abdsp51

I did drill team, color guard, honor guard/sabre team, recruiting you name it in JROTC.  I took those skills and honed them in CAP and started training a color guard there.  There is a wealth of experience to be obtained from both programs.
