Good evening everyone. At my squadron meeting yesterday, we had a class about learning from your peers and implementing things that you like about the way that they run things. What are some experiences you have had with learning from your peers? Has it worked or ended in disaster?

Learning from peers and best practices of others are the very ideas behind CAPTalk.  We started this forum to be a resource where CAP members can share their ideas, best practices, ask questions, get advice, reviews on gear, and use it as a sounding board for their own ideas.  You'll find by browsing around the site a large number of threads which fit this bill.

I found 2 hrs of PT with all the Seniors before each meeting was a real bonding experience.

Were those doughnut lifts or cruller curls?  ;D

I like doing PT with my fellow senior members, curl the doughnut, dunk the doughnut, curl the doughnut, curl the 8oz coffee cup, repeat 10x for 3 sets or until muscle failure sets in.

You jest, but my squadron used to do that.  Squadron PT sessions at least twice a month, if not 3x, and the senior members would PT along side cadets, join in our "moto runs" around the airport, occassionally introducing some cadences for the cadets even, etc.  On CPFT's, there were a handful of us seniors that took it as a point of pride when we could beat cadets.  I ran my best sub-6 mile ever when I was racing my squadron commander to the finish line during a PFT.  Didn't want to let him win!  (He won, by about 5 seconds in the final strides)  But that healthy competition not only helped bond some of the SMs who participated, but also set a great example for the cadets.

I've got a few senior members that do PT with the cadets.  Occasionally, the Squadron/CC will go out there and do the PT test with them.  There are a few cadets that are capible of beating the boss at the PT test.  I've noticed that for the most part, the cadets respond better to instructions and mentoring from the senior members who do PT with them than they do the other senior members.

Only if you throw things at the cadets that are last.

Hey I am having trouble with my SDA for Achievement 10 ( 1st Lt.) and I have everything done except going through the process of requesting forms or regulations that your squadron needs. If someone could just show me where the online version to request that would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thank you,

Primarily, you would download most forms and other publications. In eServices, use the CAP Materials application to requisition forms not available for download. However, I don't think cadets have access. By the way, did you ask your Squadron Administrative officer?

SarDragon

I don't think cadets have the ability to access the request application on eServices.

Since CAPP 52-14 is a bit out of date in this area, you need to directly discuss this section with your Admin Officer.

The materials app only has recruiting stuff, unless you have the restricted app permission.
