Hopefully this gets sticky and I'm sure it's been posted before. But I figure, why not.

The Level I Foundations program is a CAP orientation program and the first of CAP's Five professional development program levels. During this training you will be exposed to the history of our organization and familiarize yourself with the general policies and procedures. To complete this level, complete the requirements (1-5) outlined below (in accordance with CAPR 50-17). Should you have any questions about what you are leaning in level one please do not hesitate to talk to your mentor, unit Professional Development Officer, or unit Commander.

Getting your level 1 complete is easy as 123,4 and 5  :D

I will outline the five steps then I will go into each of them separately.

1)Set up your E-Services account & complete OPSEC.
2)Intro to CAP Safety for New Members.
3)Cadet Protection (For ages 17 & Older only)
4)Equal Opportunity
5)Foundations Module

By completing Level I you earn the Membership Ribbon

Step 2: Intro to CAP Safety for New Members

Log into E-Services: https://www.capnhq.gov/

Along the left side where it says My Favorites, locate where it says Online Safety Education.

From here you'll see "Introduction to CAP Safety" under the Required Safety Course section. Click on the blue link. Yours will say "NOT TAKEN" Mine says "PASSED" because I have completed it. From here you can also take other safety courses which will count for your monthly safety to stay current. Of course by attending meetings regularly, you will receive Safety Course Credit on your account from the Safety Officer.

After clicking the link, it will bring up the "Into to CAP Safety Course"

Click where it says "*Intro to CAP Safety " which will download the powerpoint slides to your computer. I have also uploaded them here too. Go through the slides and when you are complete, go back to this screen, check the box that says "I verify that I have read the required material before taking this quiz" and then click "Start Quiz"

Go through the quiz. After you pass you will see this. Click "Finish" and you are done with the Intro to CAP Safety and Step 2 of the Level 1 Process.

Step 3: Cadet Protection (For ages 17 & Older only)

This one is one of the most important steps so listen up!

Head on over to your pal E-Services: https://www.capnhq.gov/
* I hope by this point you have bookmarked it  :D

After logging in, on the left under "My Favorites" locate "Cadet Protection"

Read through this section and go through the steps to get this completed. You can't really continue with any aspect of CAP until this has been completed.

CAP's professional development is designed around your integrity, one of CAP's Core Values. You are on your honor to read the articles and to take the pre-test on your own.

Step 1 - Print the CPPT pre-test and answer all 20 questions. Don't worry if you don't know all of the answers, we will go through the test and the correct answers during this training.
Step 2 - Read CAPR 52-10, CAP's Cadet Protection Policy. Scroll down the list and click the CAPR 52-10 link.
Step 3 - Read CAPP 50-3, CPPT Student Guide.
Step 4 - Review the Cadet Protection slides to correct your pre-test.
Step 5 - Take your corrected pre-test to your unit. Your leaders will validate the test with you and answer any questions that you may have. Your leaders will ask you some additional questions about this material.
Step 6 - Your leaders will also give you one of two case studies to consider. You will be asked how you would respond in similar circumstances. You can review the case studies now so that you can frame your potential answers before your meeting:

CPPT Case Study #1
CPPT Case Study #2

Congratulations!

By completing these six simple steps, you have completed the self-paced Cadet Protection Program Training. Your squadron leaders will ensure that you receive credit.

Step 4: Equal Opportunity

This one is another online quiz! Short and simple.

Go here! https://tests.cap.af.mil/EO_Training/Index.cfm

Fill out the Required Fields.

Download the PowerPoint Slides and review them. At the very end of the presentation there will be a slide that asks you if you agree or disagree. I hope you click Agree and it will take you to the online page you were at and say that you have completed the Equal Opportunity Training.

One more step down, one more closer to getting your Level 1! 8-)

Step 5: Foundations Module

The foundations module portion will give you history about CAP, where we came from, what we do and where our future is.

The CAP Foundations Course is self-paced and open book. There are a total of six modules for you to complete. Each module contains a three to five page article for you to read, along with a brief quiz.

CAP's professional development is designed around your integrity, one of CAP's Core Values. You are on your honor to read the articles and to take the open book quizzes on your own. Please print out each quiz and circle the most correct answer. Then take the completed quizzes to your squadron for scoring and review.

Each module should take less than 15 minutes to read, and each quiz should take less than 15 minutes to complete. You will need the free Adobe PDF Reader or a compatible PDF viewer to view these materials, dated May 07 or later. You can download Adobe Reader here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_reader/

Completing Level I earns you the membership ribbon and completes one of the eligibility requirements for promotion (see CAPR 35-5 for promotion criteria). Talk with your mentor or commander if you have any questions about Level I.

That's it! Congratulations on completing your Level 1. Make sure the Professionalism Development Officer (PDO) has all your paperwork to submit for your Level 1.

I hope this helps. It can be done relatively quickly.  :)

This should probably be something the local squadron should fill you in on.

If you join up with my unit, plan on spending a lot more time than it takes to look at some slides on-line. I'm convinced that new folks are rushed through the material with a "check-the-box" mentality, rather than being properly prepared for membership.

Not necessarily reinventing the wheel. More like adding the cruise control for the older models. Just telling someone to go to a website, it's all on there, doesn't make it helpful or understandable. Just trying to make it easier.  :)

I know they are trying to keep each of the classes as a separate subject, but I find it's most efficient if the individual finishes the self-study portions of CPPT and Foundations, then come back to the leaders for the face to face portion (Steps 3 and 5).

Taking it on-line is nice. But if you have questions, who's going to answer them?

On-line is a nice back up if there isn't a Level 1 scheduled in your area. But attending it in person is the perferred method.

I haven't seen/heard of a real Level I class in many months. We used to do them at the group level here, and when the new stuff came out, the classes disappeared almost instantly. That's a shame,, because we put on an outstanding class, and put some well prepared members out the door.
