My squadron is hosting a RRLA at a middle school on the 14th. So, in this thread I will tell you how it goes...


From what I have been told, we are the 14th squadron to do this in the US. Some Group, Wing and possibly National folks will be there... Will be a big day for us.

We just received approval from the school system, and are getting started on this. I'd like to learn from your experience.

Keep in mind, the fourth lesson has some things in it from the previous lesson. Make sure both cadets know that. For mine, I added a volunteer powerpoint behind the adobe slides to make it a little more different and better. We may have pictures and video of the Academy.

Well, this program caught my attention for a minute until I read, "Host schools must be within 30 miles of an Air Force installation." Seems like CAP is shooting itself in the foot on this one by excluding most schools across the nation.

Wow.  So much for promoting outreach to our local community.

Most DDR funding, IIRC, comes from the AF DDR program which is limited to communities surrounding AF bases. AF personnel living off base typically live within 30 miles of the base.

It's not CAP that is shooting itself in the foot, they are simply complying with the rules handed to them by the funding source, AF/SG

I just got back from the Academy. Lesson four entirely is not a good lesson, as it jumps around too much. All staff agree. The senior will send a report to National telling them that.

As I understand it, recruiting stations count as a military installation.  That should mean a lot more schools are included.

^ Unforuntly when it involves DDR and Air Force appropriated money, they are specific in what does and does not qualify.  Recruiting Stations do not qualify.  The listing (updated for this year) of CAP Units and Military Installations eligible for DDR materials and funding is found on the DDR website in the Cadet Programs section of capmembers.com
